    This worth an upgrade?

Found this rare partizan... damage seems pretty good... Do you think it would be worth socketing and upgrading?

    Hailstone Fang
    +5 Str
    254% ED
    +14 max damage
    9% mana leech
    0.5*lvl max damage
    16.5*lvl AR

Very nice, although not insane. If it had been life leech instead of mana leech then maybe. Problem is there are so many good unique polearms out there that you really have to strike gold for it to be worth it.

I would say not worth the runes.

For upgrading you want greater that cruel ED% so 300%+ and IAS for top breakpoint speeds, 20%+ IAS at bare minimum. It's also a two handed weapon not quite the most useful type of weapon unless you're thinking as a merc item, in which case Ethereal and life leech are essential.

So over all its not worth the upgrade close but not worth the time getting those needed runes.

It's not. Here's one that is closer but still not there.

    Storm Razor
    Hatchet
    One-Hand Damage: 47 to 102
    Durability: 20 of 28
    Required Dexterity: 25
    Required Strength: 25
    Required Level: 48
Axe Class - Normal Attack Speed
    Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
    Item Level: 86
    Fingerprint: 0x19d517a6
    +376% Enhanced Damage
    +139 to Attack Rating
    +3 to Maximum Damage
    Adds 1-5 fire damage
    Adds 1-11 lightning damage
    Socketed (1: 0 used)

    No useful mods but ED

it sucks when you get 350+ ed on a weapon with such low base damage it doesnt really matter :(

but that polearm isnt worth upgrading, try to find eth ones with high ed to up, assuming it's for your merc

Tell me about it. I have a composite bow with 321 ED.
    Havoc Thirst
    Wrist Spike
    One-Hand Damage: 50 to 115
    Durability: 56 of 56
    (Assassin Only)
    Required Dexterity: 66
    Required Strength: 66
    Required Level: 48
Claw Class - Fast Attack Speed
    Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
    Item Level: **
    Fingerprint: 0x830ef62c
    +292% Enhanced Damage
    +10 to Maximum Damage
+4 to Mana After Each Kill
Repairs 1 durability in 20 seconds

Imagine if that had rolled ethereal...C'est la vie. I like nice rares and I'm glad they've reinstated them in this patch. I think you could potentially hit 400+ ED and ethereal with repair. That might compete with a rune word or two.

With those mods I would go normal to exceptional in a heartbeat. But up to elite . . . nah.

Hey, that looks like something I had. It had abt the same ED but 40%ias(from 2 sockets) and 9% mana leech. I upgraded mine instantly.

    Sorry, no.

Uniques and one particular runeword makes it tough to pull the trigger on upgrading unless you have a fantastic item with all the right mods:

Huge ED, big IAS, leech of some kind and AR modifiers and maybe two sockets ... among others. Not sure if all those can appear on one rare item but it's worth looking out for it.

I mean, you can make an Honor runeword from a 5 socket Lance and have it ready to be used at an early juncture.

I made this ethereal Honor for my mid-game act2 merc and it's pretty nice:

    Honor
    Lance
    'AmnElIthTirSol'
    Two-Hand Damage: 113 to 453
    Durability: 13 of 13
    Required Dexterity: 78
    Required Strength: 100
    Required Level: 27
Spear Class - Slow Attack Speed
    Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
    Item Level: 86
    Fingerprint: 0xfcf8cf25
    +10 to Strength
    +160% Enhanced Damage
    +250 to Attack Rating
    +9 to Minimum Damage
    +9 to Maximum Damage
    7% Life stolen per hit
    Replenish Life +10
    +1 to Light Radius
    +1 to All Skill Levels
+2 to Mana After Each Kill
    25% Deadly Strike
Ethereal (Cannot be Repaired), Socketed (5: 5 used)

As you can see, those runes are easy to find. Won't take many Countess or Lower Kurast runs or just plain questing to find those runes.

Thought I'd revive this instead of making a new thread. I've found these rares in a meph drop today. I thought myself unlucky at the lack of uniques, but I when I identified these rares I thought maybe it wasn't a bad drop after all.

    Eagle Scratch
    Long Sword
    One-Hand Damage: 11 to 75
    Durability: 28 of 44
    Required Dexterity: 39
    Required Strength: 55
    Required Level: 48
Sword Class - Very Fast Attack Speed
    Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
    Item Level: 87
    Fingerprint: 0x60c9cca6
    +296% Enhanced Damage
    +25 to Attack Rating
    Adds 7-17 fire damage
    30% Increased Attack Speed
+0 to Maximum Damage (Based on Character Level)
+16 to Attack Rating (Based on Character Level)

(the bonus to max damage is half clvl)

    Soul Dart
    Throwing Spear
    Throw Damage: 54 to 136
    One-Hand Damage: 22 to 68
    Quantity: 80
    Required Dexterity: 65
    Required Level: 48
Javelin Class - Very Fast Attack Speed
    Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
    Item Level: 87
    Fingerprint: 0x6ac92735
    +356% Enhanced Damage
    +120 to Attack Rating
    Cold Resist +19%
    6% Life stolen per hit
    30% Increased Attack Speed
    Replenishes Quantity

*sigh* I really wish that was ethereal...

So anyway, I was wondering which of these you guys would upgrade to elite, if any. I'll likely up them both to exceptional at least. I still have the runes necessary for an upgrade, but I can currently only afford one. The sword I could actually see using on one or two of my characters. The javelin isn't good enough to beat a Titan's IMO so it would only get used on a throw barb, and I don't have one of those yet.

Also, would these be worth trading at all? If so, would it be better to trade as exceptional, or should I upgrade then trade?

    The first one no.

The soul dart yeah maybe, would be worth considering, shucks it wasn't ethereal.

I would definetly upgrade the longsword to exceptional. Good ED, Fool's and IAS. Especially the fool's huge AR makes this awesome. Might even take it to elite if I felt like it.

The Throwing spear is nice, too, but as you said, doesn't cut it for amazons. What you want on amazons is +skills, not ED. For a throwbarb I'd at least take it to exceptional again.

    Thats just mean isnt it?
Anyway, ill agree with everyone and say no unless you have nothing to matchit already, or have tons of runes lying around that you have no use for.

    Not worth the runes.

I'm thinking in a double upgrade to this one:

    Eagle Hew
    Broad Sword
    One-Hand Damage: 28 to 57
    Durability: 20 of 32
    Required Strength: 48
    Required Level: 48
Sword Class - Very Fast Attack Speed
    Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
    Item Level: 85
    Fingerprint: 0xb41c0712
    +311% Enhanced Damage
    +40 to Attack Rating
    Adds 1-91 lightning damage
    6% Life stolen per hit
    +1 to Paladin Skill Levels
    40% Increased Attack Speed

    For a new fanatic Zealot
