Thinkin about playin D2 again

I haven't played Diablo in about 7 months, and was thinking of getting back into it over the summer. I don’t know if I have the patients to build up to the player I once was. I was thinking about spending 10-20 bucks on ebay to get a few items to trade and then go from there. I have never bought D2 items on ebay, I think it’s really demoralizing and I don't want to support people who sell D2 items on ebay. But, the time and effort I would spend to obtain some decent items is worth 10-20 bucks to me. I AM NOT ASKING/BEGGING FOR ITEMS. What should I do?

Well, it sounds like you've all ready thought this through and have made your decision. You say it's "demoralizing" and you "don't want to support people who sell D2 items on ebay" - so then if those are truly your feelings, why do it? I know that if my thoughts matched your statements, I wouldn't even consider compromising my convictions for the sake of convenience. But that's just me.

I restarted D2 from scratch (SP) a couple months ago. It only took me a couple weeks of casual play to get my first character set up with 450% MF for Pit/Boss runs. Once you reach that point, you're pretty much set for farming tradables.

Please, don't. Every cent spend on ebay means more dupes and more bots.

Yes, but are you willing to pay 20 bucks + the knowlegde to have spend real money for a dupe? And that these 20 bucks will be used to produce more dupes?

Actually getting all items besides the uber-godly ones is quite easy, a nice hellforge drop and some pgems will get you decent gear for any character class to master hell quite nice.

never EVER spend money for online items...

its pointless,u buy the items, use it happily for awhile n then u want more, then u buy more n the cycle continues

tk the time to earn ur own stuff n learn to trade, the game is much mroe fulfilling when u know that u have earned all of ur items urself...not by getting it off ebay

trust me,dont bay. ull thank urself in the future

It appears that the vote is unanimous.

For myself, I would start a single skill tree cold sorc with Blizzard.

Collect gems as you go and trade on the forums for the gear you will need.

Things like Tarn helm, Wizspike Vipermagi, Magefist, Nagel, Goldwrap and a two socket Grim shield for Rhyme runeword are all had for 6 gems or less each. Add some rare boots with MF and a +2 coldskills amulet with a bit of MF and your are all set to start the road to riches.

It won't take long at all and you can do NM Mephy runs. The cold sorc can even handle Hell Mephy at level 76-79 with average gear. The only negative is it gets boring as the sorc can't do much else on her own with only one type of skill. Be sure to level your hireling (merc). For this build, the NM act two holy freeze hireling is the most popular.

Not everything sold on ebay is a dupe or supporting dupes. You can pick up that one item you just can't seem to mf or that you need quickly to start a character. You can be pretty certain that a zod on ebay is duped, but its unlikely that the skullders you need to finish up your mf sorc or whatever is duped.

Basically it comes down to which do you value more an item you looked for over weeks, or one you paid for to get right away. Which is more valuable your gaming time or your cash bling?

I actually was thinking to start again as well. My characters are probably all expired for about the gazillionth time, but I was planning to start single player anyway. After this WoW madness ends probably, though. :)

wait for the ladder reset and everyone else will be just as poor as you

Maybe not a good idea? If you are young, say under 20 then it might be a viable alternative. If you are one of the few "older" players then you could die of old age before the reset. Be warned.

Thanks for the advice, but I think that I am going to pass on playing D2. As fun and great of a game it is, it is just too addictive. I'm saving my money for a new computer anyway.I think it is healthier to play Counter Strike, which just gets boring after 1-1.5 hours of playing at one time. Sorry about my screwed up avatar, it must have gotton dusty after not posting for so long.
