Wow...
It's kind of silly that Bliz makes those Runes so rare. I mean some of the runewords are nice...but I don't think they are game-breaking. Plus it encourages people to dupe. Don't the runes just go poof though with that ruststorm program they have?

passive, can catch them, but it has holes
2 of the same rune in the same game will cause them to poof
active is rarely ever run, takes about a day iirc
near the end of a season they can include; hel, lem, pul++
yes, iv had several hel runes poof on me near the end of last ladder, was going to reroll some spirits and insights
if your not careful with the runes or gear you trade for they can poof on you
best to make your own runewords, or get them from another player you can trust
keep all high or commonly dup'd runes on a mule that never enters public games with other players
never let 2 of the same rune see each other in a game or on a mule
(use seperate mules to store the same type of runes)
use a designated mule to trade your hrs
keep it empty til you want to trade a rune, then put the rune(s) on it and trade with that mule in private games, never bring it to public games to trade

I agree with Jeff though - most of the runes must be dupes, so caution or purism (no trading) is the way to go.
There are ways to get good runes in a legit manner. The Hell hellforge has a fair change of dropping Ist, Mal and Gul (1 in 11 for each iirc). Thus any runeword using Mal, Ist, Gul, Vex, Ohm (or lower runes) is realistically achievable even in single player (Vex being cubed by 2 Guls and Ohm by 2 Vexs).

Or simply ask the trustworthy people here where they got their runes, I know if I found a legit HR, I would either use it myself, keep it as a trophy to gather dust, or sell it for a higher (than a maybe-duped hr) price here.

I keep hearing about this hellforge run, but I have no clue what it is. As far as I know the Hellforge can only be run once (when one has Mephisto's Soulstone). Each time I tried to go to it after that I got to kill Hephasto, but that was it.
Could you please let me know?

Some people rush with their friends, but most of them have multiple d2 instances running and do so called selfrushes. This process can be further improved by doing rushes in classic so they don't have to do the glitch rush (bypassing ancients quest).
People create a new character, rush it through all three difficulties to hell hellforge and collect the reward.

Can all three soulstones (from all three diff. levels) be kept and used at one time in hell?
Wow, I totally hijacked this thread. Sorry, Mordeeth, I didn't mean to. I am just really curious about ways to improve my wealth within the game.
Don't the new chars have to be close enough to Andy, Duriel, Meph, to consider that quest finished, or can those be bypassed somehow. Sorry, I should have mentioned that this is a question about self-rushing.

You can collect the forge only once in each difficulty. Some people only pops the nightmare and hell forge, but i personally get normal forge aswell cause there's allways use for pgems or some spirit/craft runes.
I'm at work now, but i'll be playing dii tonight for sure (from 20
o CET or so), whisper me (at *butchie2) and i'll gladly show you how to rush your chars effectively.
Yes, one of the chars in need of the quest have to be close enough, but there's allways a spot where you can stand your mule out of harms way (also you get the quest even with corpse as long you don't pres escape to spawn in town = you don't really have to worry much on softcore). The rest of the party gets the quest even if they stay in town.
