the Tragedian class?

Quick Fact: A Tragedian is an actor who specializes in performing tragedies. They originated in Greece.

Although I know this is never going to happen, I just thought I'd share an idea I think would be fun. The Tragedian would be a combination of a ninja/kunoichi and a bard/dancer (Yes, I know this isn't Final Fantasy) that specializes in debuffing enemies and then cleaning up the mess with some attack skills, both ranged and close-ranged.

So let me know what you think? I know it's an obscure idea, but would you ever consider playing such a character? Feedback would be cool. Any additions you feel would make sense or add to the character?

Lore: This resident of Sanctuary belongs to an organization that was originally a guild of entertainers who traveled across all of the world during it's more peaceful times, performing for the people and staging dramatic plays. However, as Sanctuary began to plummet into chaos and paranoia as word spread of demon invasions in far off lands, they began to see that their particular skills were no longer needed or appreciated. They refashioned themselves into a group of unique warriors, constantly training in a new fighting style that used their stage skills and acrobatic prowess as its basis and they became known as Tragedians. These are the testing times where they will put their skills to the use and find if they are truly an asset to the world of Sanctuary.

Skill Trees:

Stage Fighting - The Tragedian is skilled in a fighting style that, while beautiful, is actually quite effective in combat, utilizing their speed and agility to perform devastating moves.

Introduction: A backwards flipping kick that knocks back an enemy.

Climax: A close range kneeing to the stomach that temporarily stuns enemies.

Finale: A spinning kick that damages enemies in a 360 radius. Higher levels increase damage and range.

Grace: A passive buff that decreases the chance the Tragedian will be hit by melee attacks and increases the chance to dodge ranged attacks.

Perform - The Tragedians have always used their skills in order to evoke emotions in people. They have perfected their movements and have reached the point where they have learned to perform certain gestures and use their voices to create musical notes that have a hypnotizing effect, causing enemies to go into trances or causing them to perform certain acts. They can also buff allies in this way.

Tragic Sorrow: An array of sorrowful steps that lowers an enemy's guard, lowering their defense and making them more susceptible to damage from physical attacks.

Lethargy Tune: Perform a song that causes an enemy to lose their balance, slowing down their movement and attack speed.

Banshee's Shriek: The Tragedian performs a frightening scream that roots enemies in place for a few seconds.

Seppuku Dance: Performs a series of gestures and moves that drives enemies into a rage, causing them to attack their allies, or if no other enemy is present, attack themselves.

Berserker Melody: Perform a dance that increases an allies drive for battle and improves attack speed slightly as well as physical damage.

Mana Song: Increases mana regeneration for allies.

Master Bard: Passive that increases the duration of your song's and dance's effects.

Amazing Feats: Basically death defying feats performed at circuses and things like that. These include knife-throwing and near superhuman strength.

Knife Throw: Throws a razor knife at an enemy with a chance to pierce, causing physical damage.

Pin: Throws several sharp needles in front of the Tragedian, causing any enemies to experience physical damage, as well as extra bleed damage as a dot.

Precision: Increases the critical strike chances of ranged skills such as Knife Throw and Pin.

Strong Arm: Throws an enemy to the ground, damaging them and creating a shock wave that also damages surrounding enemies, but for less damage.

Escape Artist: Dispels any slow, stun, and immobilizing effects and then causes the Tragedian to become immune to them for a short while. Would have a cooldown (20 secs?)

Fire Breathing: Cause nearby enemies to engulf in flames, and spreads the fire to other enemies.

Re: the Tragedian class?

Thanks. I figured I would take the idea of the Bard class from Diablo Hellfire, and sort of expand on it. I also got some inspiration from the class of the same name that never made into the final version of Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows. Everyone's talking death knights and rangers and even though I would probably enjoy those classes I just would like to see something that hasn't been done to death.

Nice to see a truly original class concept :) I kinda suspect it's a little highbrow for your average diablo player though, and the boys would worry it would make them look, um, you know ;) An ACTOR? and he's GREEK?

I would totally play it, though.

I'm working on a sketch of the character right now. Mostly just practicing for my art classes, but I figure it would kind of look like a ninja, but wearing a Greek tragedy mask and some similarly themed accesories. An asian/mediterranean sort of cross-over. I know when people think actor, they automatically think tights and puffy sleeves, but these guys are still warriors.

Super Fuzzy cell phone pictures because I'm too lazy to scan at this point...

She's in the middle of a dance, and she'll probably be holding a dagger in the hand over her head.

OMG this is awesome!!!!

It would be like:
Hammerdin - Help I cant kill Baal by myself because I lost my hammers!!!(starts crying)
Tragedian - Dont worry my son, I will take care of it and then we can find your hammers(and he picks up Baal and throws him in the big hole.)

That's where I got my sn from! I remember reading about the class in a Game Informer. Incidentally, I also acted a lot in school and in Thespian competitions.

So anyway, I'm in love with this class. I think it would actually be a pretty good idea. I would play it. Oh, and I have some ideas for a skills.

Dance of Graves - An ancient dance that calls forth the fury of the spirits to attack enemies. It would look like ghosts rising up from under enemies, and causing damage to them. Actors and carnies are said to be very supersticious people so I think it could fit. Perform Tree.

Puppet Master - The Tragedian takes control of an enemy for a short while, using it as a sort of human shield to take damage for them and attack nearby enemies. The enemy would attack independently kind of like a temporary pet. It would look like glowing strings coming from the hands of the Tragedian and attached to the monster. Amazing Feats Tree.

Encore - The Tragedian does a sliding kick, damaging any enemies that are hit. Kind of like a short range charge attack. Stage Fighting Tree.

Re: the Tragedian class?

Actually, some kind of Actor or Artist or Bard would be an interesting class.

If he had some mad acting skills he could even shapeshift into something big, so we could have the shapeshifter there. Also it would be a great and full of grace hybrid class.

Man, you made me lower the priority of a Swashbuckler, great idea.

Long live to the Tragedian!

Re: the Tragedian class?

This is a stupid idea...
I mean think about the logic behind this class... "So I was giving a fantastic monologue from Hamlet, when I thought... 'golly, this is such a waste of time. I should be off gashing my way through crowds of demons and assaulting the legions of hell.' Yeah! I'm going to use my incredible stage presence to scare the **** out of my enemies."
An actor...? What the hell kind of actor are we talking about??

Re: the Tragedian class?

Interesting...very very interesting. It reminds me of the mesmer in Guild Wars, just the concept behind it being an actor and all. (one of the mesmer heroes in guildwars is an actor thats all I think about when I read this)

It seems like the combat could be tweaked a bit, like the tree with all the attacks in it whos name escapes me but other then that sweey.

i like this idea, but i don't think it's such a great choice for the original 5. i think it would make a superb xpac class, however.

Re: the Tragedian class?

a good idea, but as it is it doesn't fit into the diablo game well, i just don't think of actors and actresses as lethal demon killing machines
I do like the idea of an agile "ninja" like fighter with martial arts moves
