The single rudest thing I saw on Bnet in awhile..

Well, it's part of the reason I got knocked out of my account for awhile (looking for that Ribcracker I still can't find) but I was in an A1 norm game, just lvlin' with two lvl 3 chars. a zon & a sorc. So they're in the Den and I go to join in trying to get to lvl 6 so I could get werebear with my druid. Anyway, they're quite a few screens ahead of me (I can see their X's but not their exact location on the map).

Sorc: Can I have that staff please?
    Zon: Of course not.

    I mean, yeesh.

I suppose part of the reason it bothered me was the fact that prior to this I was doing Hell Meph runs with my Hammerdin, and to join a norm game and see someone so blatantly rude/greedy about whatever staff Corpsefire dropped.. it just made it seem like what it was: pointless greed. In another 2 lvls it'd be useless (or moreso useless than norm rare drops are anyway heh).

Or maybe I've just been accustomed to the more silent "I want to keep this but don't want to be rude so I won't say anything about it" approach for too long. o_O

Eck.. talk about a joykiller. :/

Are you out of your mind?
That is no where near what your title "The single rudest thing I saw on Bnet in awhile.. " suggests.

Instead of saying "of course not", the zon could instead reply with a irade of anti black, ***, homosexual, noobie slurs
Then the sorc would continue with a constant spamming of "can i have the staff"
and so on and so on...

Speaking of this subject. I remember back in the old days koreans and asians were the only racial targets. Is it a sign of progess that Bnet has expanded to include all ethnic, racial and social groups in the slurs?

Nah, I think "Of course not" is indeed ruder than "no noob (insert racial ranting here)". To the latter we are used. I don't think Starseed would make this post if it was just that. I can't really explain why, but "Of course not" is in my opinion far more rude than any childish comment.

And oh well - welcome to Battlenet, I guess. Nothing surprises me there anymore.

I think that's the reason, the other being childish comments. Obviously the players that like to throw around various racial slurs are generally of a lower IQ bracket and thus can be more or less disgarded as your garden-variety simpletons, whereas this is a matter of "You're a sorceress, I'm an amazon; despite fact that your class uses this type of item I'm going to keep it purely out of greed-driven spite."

I mean in my years on Bnet I've seen my fair share of mocking, heckling and what-have-you that's all too common on the realms but to see the overall greed of the (below) average player condensed and focused into one single comment just.. eh.. I don't know. It got under my skin.

Maybe it has something to do with working in retail and dealing with similar situations 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. To see it in a situation where I'm not directly involved, but yet still connected to the situation gives me a more objective viewpoint..

Or maybe I've just stopped making sense.. :cheesy:

Yup, that's exactly what I meant. "Of course not" just sounds much more... disturbing... because it has more meaning than your average Bnet kiddie going "noob" and "I pwnz j00".

At least the zon in the example was in a way honest and straghtforward.
All she did was say "I'm greedy and an *******, and you should have realized it when you entered a public game"
In a way, that is actually a relief to me cause i like to figure out who are the ppl who i might be able to trust and who aren't...

I guess it's because I'm one of those few foolish idealists who, no matter how cynical and jaded they get, will always maintain the faintest sliver of hope for humanity. Just in case. ;)

"Of course not" just assumes all people are scum and you're a fool for even asking.

It's only that little bit that disturbs me. This person has gone as far as denying you something that is so little use for him, just because he can, and because he gets a Mild boost in his coin purse.

This is going to sound really weird... But let's put joy/benefits into units.

This guy will have, I guess, 1 unit of each since having a little money early game is a nice thing.

You, on the other hand, if it were a nice staff, would have had 5 for those levels you put it to use.

Now... this guy's so selfish he can't see that and feels his 1 outweighs your 5. That's just presumptuous, wrong and rude.

Talking about manners.... this reminds me of a trade I did last night...

Agreed in the trading forums to buy a Dragonscale shield.. Ok cool. Joined game with him, and low and behold the shield was sitting on the floor waiting for me, and he says "I trust you, drop the pgems on the floor, brb". Exits game, and then he calmly walks back in after a few mins for collection...

Now, if I was a person with no manners or morals, I could have picked up the shield and exited the game and he couldnt do anything about it.. but I didnt you see. I waited till he got back, left the shield where it was, chucked my pgems on the floor, and after he saw them I said "deal concluded?", and it was, so I picked up my shield...

See, I just wish there were more people like me around who wouldnt steal, but I think it was very silly of the guy I was trading with to do this just in case I was a twat....

Ah well all turned out well in the end for both him and me... :uhhuh:

What goes around comes around. I was in a cow game and there was this lvl 68, item snatching barb. A few mins. into the game, a herd of cows killed him. He tried to get his bod..died again. Try and die...then he has the nerve to yell at me for not killing the cows around his body. I usually try to help out..but in this case, he can loose all his experience.

Alkali, that's basically how virtually almost all my forum trades are carried out :p And I've never once lost an item doing this on these forums....

I had one trade go bad and have done a lot of trading through the forums (I had another account back in the day). I didn't loose anything of value to me but just be aware, even in here people unfortunatly can not always be trusted (I still drop trade though).

And is it me or is the amount of racial swears increasing. It's like certain remarks become popular....

The zon had no obligation to give it to you.
So basically, if someone takes something you want and they all you noob/[racist word] they're immature and you whine.
If they say no outright, proper english and all, you whine.

Basically it just seems that you were pissed you didn't get the drop.

It's just too damn bad that Starseed was the 3rd party person while the rude comment took place. Now you can apologize and redirect your comments of whining towards the unknown sorc that Starseed is speaking of.

I tend to agree. A tirade of abuse is commonplace and half expected. I think the response Starseed got would rile me more than foul mouthed insults.

It's the same feeling you get if you've opened a cab door to get in and some chancer steps into the cab, closes the door and the cab drives off leaving you frozen to the spot, mouth flapping. To me anyway.
