For a little history, Diablo III was my most anticipated game of all time just a few short years ago. Those early videos were absolutely stunning. I was elated when I got into the beta of D3V. Then, after playing a few weeks, I realized how linear and not fun the loot was. I always felt weak.
Fast forward several months later and after getting my D3 Collectors Edition review copy, I was still pretty stoked. Then I played the game, for months, hoping it would get better or I would get some cool loot. Nothing really ever came to fruition.
After I got in the very early F&F Beta for RoS, my faith was restored... somewhat. Loot was actually cool and fun again. The levels were a bit cooler and darker. My excitement was rising again. Then, I realized, this is a Action RPG on rails. There is no exploration. There is no true random features. It's all a bunch of cheap tricks with a full retail price tag.
Watching the latest round of TLSO (The Loot Soap Opera) just confirms my early feelings that this game is a mess and cannot be fixed at this point without a major overhaul. Though not perfect Path of Exile, Grim Dawn and Adventures of Van Helsing are more Diablo than Diablo III or RoS. Apart from the loot drama, this is a linear borefest of a RPG. Sure, I'll still get my review copy and I'll still play it but I definitely wouldn't pay $39.99 for it..
