    The Ramen Noodle thread

Ill spare you the axioms common to discussion with the infamous noodles (Im poor college student, im broke I gotta eat, etc.) and just get straight to the point. Ramen noodles, aside from being the cheapest food in the universe (or close to it), is also one of the easiest to customize. I am assuming that many of you have had it and, if you are like me, had a steady diet of it for a (hopefully) short period. My question is, how do you customize your ramen noodles? Personally, I add some seasoning salt, soy sauce, butter and chicken if I have any.

But wait, there's more. Im not going to leave it at Ramen noodles. Explain other ways in which you spice up a meal that has become monotonous or is just plain boring.

I usually add whatever frozen vegetables are lying around and about a tablespoon of tabasco.

I am a Senior in college and have NEVER had Ramen noodles. I plan to be the first to make it through college without resorting to either getting money from my parents or eating ramen noodles. WISH ME LUCK.

Dude, its like a college rite of passage, you MUST eat the ramen noodles, I dont think they'll give you a degree unless you prove that you've cooked up and ate a batch at least once.

I've got a cookbook of ramen noodle recipies. Really. My "favorite" is one where you make a pizza "crust" from boiled noodles that you then bake and top.

Add an egg or a slice of ham. Some frozen vegetables. Fry up little pieces of pork.

I never ate Ramen when I was in college. I had a crock pot and found all sorts of ways to make split pea soup. I could feed myself very well twice a day (and I'm talking about eat till I was stuffed) for only $10 a week. Of course it was the same damned thing every day. Split pea soup for breakfast and dinner.

Occasionally spiced up by making a lentil, barley and garbanzo bean soup. That however is the worlds fartingest food ever. And it gets worse with each passing day.

Get yourself a crock pot and a recipe book for it. You can get malnourished eating raman, whereas with a crockpot you can spend just a few dollars a month more and eat better and stay healthier.

I find that my Ramen Noodles are best served with a nice Salmon steak or perhaps a choice cut of Filet Mignon. Ya know... one can never be too choosy. :teeth:

I find myself wondering why you would bother eating ramen noodles if you had a filet mignon ready for consumption...

Um..am I the only one who actually like them? I get the flavored ones in the cup. I just bought 6-7 cups of Spicy Salsa Chicken flavored ones. They are quite good. I don't like the regular chicken, beef or shrimp ones. I used to get these spicy chili chicken cups, but they don't have them anymore.

Then in that case, I won't even go into the practical uses of Ramen at Halloween time then. ;)

I like em too, they just need some spice thats all. I like the oriental flavored sort, but you still gotta add some chicken or something...

If you can tolerate the spicy, then I think you should try some Korean ramen noodles. They may be a bit more expensive than Maruchan (by a couple of bucks), but they are quite tasty and in many varieties.

Funny that you mention that, just yesterday my wife told me, mid-slurp, that it looked as if I was eating a big bowl of brains...spicy, beef flavored, buttery delicious brains

Stir-fry some veggies and put that on top of the bowl of noodles.

Crack an egg on top of the noodles; add some fresh green onions.

Buy a ticket to Japan and eat ramen for real. :D
