This seems to be the most commonly asked question on this forum. maybe the guide deserves a sticky or something. I have no idea how things are run so I'll just post a link to the guide, which can be found in the strategy compendium:

This is a great guide with just about everything you need to know.

I don't know if I am the only one, but I find it sad that people ask where the Pits are just now that they are so popular. Before 1.10 nobody knew what or where the Pits were, the only thing they knew was the Cow level. I always found that quite pathetic. I have all respect for new players, but in all honesty, people who don't know where the Pits are shouldn't be doing MF runs in Hell as well.

Back in the old 1.09, I was in need to level up to be able to use some equipment I had stashed away for my Necromancer, and I resorted to a bit of "cowing" in Hell. In there, there was a player (barbarian) who asked me how to revive those cows and use them for your own good. I explained to him that it was a Necromancer skill, he just went "cool, so a barbarian can't do that?". I then asked him how long he was playing and turns out he had the game for little more than 3 weeks. A friend told him he should buy the game, go on battlenet and ask for rushes until he got to Hell cows level; the other area's wouldn't give him as much XP. He was already level 80-some. He had been killing cows for over two weeks. Up to now, he had never defeated any act boss himself whatsoever, he even rarely left the town.

I felt sad for the guy and started a new character together with him. We met every day during that week, and we went through all quests until we killed Baal together. He said he had heaps of fun and thanked me later on, and now we still play occasionally.

I don't know, I don't want to offend anyone, but somehow this question made me think of that event.
