The Paladin - gone??

Yes, Blizzard has confirmed that other than the Barbarian, there won't be any returning classes in D3. We might get one in an expansion, but not in the main game.

However, that doesn't mean we won't get a class that plays similar to the Paladin.
this really bothers me^^

Ok, seriously guys, no matter WHAT is in the game, it's going to be similar to another char. Every thing they create, no matter how unique, is still going to fall under one of the archetypes. I tell you, it's driving me mad how everyone goes "omgomgomg the WD is the same as the necro and the wiz is the same as the sorcy omgomgomg!!!1!!11!!"

But anyways, back on topic:

I always thought the Pally was soooooo lame and boring... that's just me though. I hate hate HATE the fighter type, I don't know why, I guess because it's just so bland... and I know, every other class you will just spam a certain spell just as you spam attacks on a fighter, but ugh... something is so boring about it. I mean, even in the little start up screen with the 5 or 7 characters around the campfire where you give them their name... Paladin had the absolute LAMEST action ever. Ok, they're nothing amazing, but when you're like 10 they seem cool (again, except for the pally, I thought he was lame even when I was like 10).

But yea... all I can say is, I hope they make the "fighter" interesting.

Re: The Paladin - gone??

I believe that the Paladin alternative class will be the last to be announced, as this is typical to Blizzards teasing styles. The next class to be announced will be at this years BlizzCon which will be the ranged Amazon variant.

So the current classes we have are the Wizard which in my eyes is basically a new and improved sorc with a different label. Yes he/she has different spells but the essence of the sorc is still there.

Barb same as above but has the same name.

From what they have done with the WD, Blizzard have kind of mixed mashed spells from the D2 characters to form a new and interesting archetype to keep us long lasting fans something new yet still Diablo. The Witch Doctor in my eyes is like an elemental druid mixed with a little summoner nec and a splash of a fire sorc and so on.

I speculate that the next class to be announced will be the Ranger, think mix between the D2 Amazon and WOW Hunter. They will be both ranged and close combat, will summon pets like the d2 druid, maybe set traps like the assassin, but instead of using javs for close combat they will be daggers and hopefully fist weapons ^^;.

The final class announced will defiantly be their Paladin variant which will be something very AWESOME. Blizzard loves their Paladin class, and their games wouldn’t feel the same without them. I think it will something around the lines of a Cleric.

“The cleric character class was a simulation of a soldier devotee of a sacred order who received spell powers from divine sources, to be a spellcaster who was not a magician and who also had physical power between that of the magic-user and the fighter (for instance, was able to use all armor and shields).†Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleric_(Dungeons_&_Dragons)

This is what I believe and its probably been said before. Whether I am wrong or right, D3 is going to be so much more than we all expect and it’s going to ROCK!

Cheers

I hope there will be no paladins ( barb is the only one returning from d2 as we all know), or any paladin variants in D3, i hate this most typical class " knight in shining armor", omg so boring and totaly no style, this doesnt even feel D3 at all. Just imagine paladin in D3,lol.
Lets pray for it and start the celebration when we will see there is no paladin in D3. :congrats:

Bah... I like goody two-shoes warriors, what about the people who like playing "good" guys? :)

Seeing how Witch Doctor and Wizard are similar to Necromancer and Sorceress, I really don't see why they wouldn't bring back Paladin, perhaps slightly changed or renamed, but still...

I neither am a massive fan of the "goody two shoes†pally class either, but I will love smashing them in PKPKPKPK :p

Love em or hate em, I think they are here to stay.

Another cool thing about the Cleric is that they have control over undead, so we may have some D2 Necro spice thrown in there.

"barb is the only one returning from d2" and applying it to "no paladin! yay!" is complete bull****, it's been said over and over that the wizard and witch doctor are incredibly close to d2 classes sorceress & necromancer
the only meaning of "barb is the only class returning from d2" is that it's the only class that keeps the d2 name, that's all

Besides that everyone should really stop whining about paladins coming back because of how they got their asses kicked by a hammerdin, suck it up and deal with it. (I know there are more than likely exceptions to this)
I played with every class in D2, loved them all and I'll do the same in D3.
I'm a gamer, I'll try to enjoy every aspect of it and I think everyone should at least try playing with every class.

Lol, did i say a single word about hammerdins? Lol no , i was talking about the char itself, as a class, as an image. Once again, paladin-good guy-fighter of light and goodness is damn boring and doesnt feel diablo 3. Remember, new story here, world stone destroyed, humanity is taking the next level ;). And seriously 200 fcr FB sorc or blizzard autoaim sorc is far more annoying then hammerdin ;)

Paladin is getting boring.. its in every game. I'd like to see some darker version of a plated warrior.

Wizards are similar to Sorceresses, but Witch Doc are not so similar to Necros.

as to the next two classes, I don't think 'summoning' will return, we then will have two classes who can summon. Witch Docs can summon zombie walls, maybe their next skill of reviving deads is just around the corner.

Paladins will return for sure under a new wrapping, new name, same juice. maybe they will this time have a skill called 'Holy Water Bottle', we will this round have some Bottledins casting spinning magic bottles containing holy water which does unblockable magic damage.

it may even heal party members if the wizard next to the bottledins catches it.

Re: The Paladin - gone??

I'm betting there will be one similar to the Paladin but without the whole aura concept. They probably want something that feels really practical in single player, which Paladins, although able to fare fine on their own, were really designed as a multiplayer class to support a group.
you must of never played a paly then, Paly were awsome, they were also my favorite class and i owned in PVP. The aura was and added buff or debuff the paladin as on all the time.

Like a barb for BO, it was nice having a paladin in the party for the attack and damage increase ability, or the ability to lower the resist of the enemy.

Witch docters are simular to necro's.
Witch Doctors are not similar to necros, close them to druids rather in style.

Sorceress is elemental oriented mage.
Wizard is arcane oriented mage.

I don't know even if wizard has fireball in diablo 3, mage need a fireball TT.

The wizard ain't a mage, it's a wizard. He doesn't use 'simple'/elemental magic yet high magic. That's why there isn't a fireball for the wizard while there is a 'fireball-like' skill for the witch doctor - who seems to be the simple magic user.

Re: The Paladin - gone??

Although, Paladin's were my favorite class and I enjoy playing good guys, doing the same thing again wouldn't give D3 much spark. Therefore, I do think some innovation and originality are in order. I don't give much credence on the Cleric concept (just on my personal taste), but a "dark" paladin would be a nice change and interesting to see if nothing else.

Without auras however, Paladin's loose their own spark and interest. Love them or hate them, they are what made Paladin's unique. So if they take those away, Blizzard had better give something equally awesome in their place.

Just my 2¢.

The paladin in D2 is no paladin.
It's a warrior who uses magic. They needed a name, and chose paladin.

D3 could very well include a sword & board plate wearing warrior with a new set of skills. Non hammerdin D2 paladin players will probably like it. There are lots of names to choose from for these types of warriors, but I think the name isn't that important.
