The myth behind ed/max jewel

Hi,

I heard some people say ed/max jewel does not work.

Is it true?

I want to socket my stormlash with the highest output dmg possible but some people been telling me 40ED/15max wouldn't work.

Should I go:

a) 40ed/15 max
b) 40ed/9str
c) 30 max

Please help.
