The most fun I've had killing Normal Baal in a while

Wildjinn (sp) & I just had an MP game, questing through the end of act 5. I was using my lvl 39 Cleric pali and he had a BF 'sin. the 'sin is a slow killer and mine is not much of a killer at all (although Pindle's garden falls in about 2 secs even at /players 8). we made it through the WSK at P8 up until Lister & co. at players 8 they were regenerating too fast for the small but consistant damage we were doing. we ending up restarting at players 2 and redoing the WSK, making to the same place and having a nice Minions of Destruction battle which was still challenging but at least winnable.

We fought normal Baal at /players 2 only, and it was still a long battle. Win did most of the damage with BF and his shadow, along with my rouge merc & her Kuko Shakoku (sp?). I hung back (read: was pinned against the back wall) alternating between healing holy bolts and FoH. we eventually chipped the big bug down to size and despite some NDEs it was the most fun battle I have had against Baal in Normal in a long time. It actually required some skill rather than just a few swings with a big hurty stick.

you've gotta love a game that can still throw a fun challenge at you even in Normal after playing for years.

Sounds like a good game. I love it when the only way I can kill is using strategy. My first Baal kill with a caster usually involves hiding behind a column and poking my head out to cast a couple of spells then ducking back, going to town frequently to restock my belt to keep my long suffering merc alive.

I know exactly what you mean, a while back I took Normal Diablo with my HC Fire Druid. It took me 25 minutes on /p1 and I nearly died countless times but eventually came out on top and afterward I can remember thinking "Damn, I wish the whole game was like that". Greatest DII moment for me, in terms of enjoyment.

i belive I was in that game (little red sorce with a big hurty stick) - I'm glad you guys made it - sorry, sleep was upon me, so I had to leave early.

Leveling a Cleric can be a lot of work. You can only kill ~1/3 of the monsters in the game, and some places have 0 undead in them - which makes it even harder.

Congrats :)

of course, now I have the strangely titled 'Slayer Doc' which may hurt his civilian practice...

my fartarian had great fun on p1 against diablo, baal is ok, but diablo has some dangerous attacks. it took ages, and i gave up on my merc half way through after he ate through my entire stash of money on revives. great fun it was.

oh, yeah. that was a crazy fight. the next run, i levelled to be able to use guillaume's, and a Rattlecage dropped for more CB. :p oh well. that was definitely awesome, though! a toast to Doc and Wadjyet! :)
