The most expensive character, ever

So who is it?

I'm talking about a combination of runewords and elite uniques, sets, etc.

My most expensive character to date has been my whirlwind zerker barb, with a 37% ias Grief and 268 ED/+39 str Beast, MP 12% ED Enigma, double upgraded Arreats (socketed with 40/15) and Gores, with a bunch of different gear on switch that includes a fcr/str/dex/resists ring, angelics set, eth Fortitude, etc etc.

It took me quite awhile to amass all that gear.

Well, I can't really participate b/c back in my hayday, the currency was occy rings. Also, I don't keep track of how much "wealth" I pump into my chars. Ignorance is Bliss. This also applies to # of mf runs or monsters slain or time put in etc.

Yeah, I usually don't need to buy my gear either, since I just have gear sitting around and people give me the stuff that I'm missing.

Are you talking about just the total value/rarity of the runes used to construct the items? Or the actual market value of the items, depending on their roll?

Most expensive char just in terms of rune/wealth used to create it is probably a double-LW barb with CoA and Tyraels Might, Arachs, Dracs, 2x SoJ, Maras, Travs, with a LW, Phoenix, CoA, Tyraels Might A3 merc.

Most expensive char in terms of hypothetical rarity would probably be a barb decked out with the most perfect ideal rares and/or perfect-roll crafteds and runewords you can imagine.

Decked out PvP zealot or bvb. There was a rare berserker axe which was traded for the equivalent of 2300 USD, IIRC here's the stats: 29xED, eth-rep, 40ias, fool's, 2os.

Bear sin.

One of the items (jewelers runic/feral claws of quickness) with 4os and 40ias costs well over 100 hrs for the build to work.

Is it ethereal?

If the answers are 2x yes, it's probably worth a fortune if made from self-found items.

BTW, I don't believe in additional value for good rolls on runewords in SP. For me, it would need too much trust to believe that the seller has resisted the temptation to dupe the runes for rerolling.

I believe you're talking about 3os 40ias gt/rt with +3venom? That explains the cost. Can always use a plain 3os 40ias gt/rt, on west ladder it's worth ~10hrs.

I think melee characters are the most expensive because they need really good equipments to survive and kill efficiently in Hell mode as compared to the casters.

What I always found amazing was how rare and valuable "good" claws are worth but maybe only 0.1 percent of all the d2 populous even know that, nevermind actually hunt/pickup the claws when dropped. Very depressing, but I did just recently find the last claw I needed to finish my wwsin :cloud9: . Now I just need sol/amn runes up the ying yang to try at an amazing crafted item.

Back on topic, any class that needs items from previous patches that are ladder only on NL. Such as.... idk many rare and exotic builds.

Its not just claws...nec heads and sorcs staffs can spawn with godly sets of +skills too. +3 FB, +3 FM for Leaf, or +3 ES for Memory, with a +3 to a cold armor for prebuffing; a 2os head with +3 SM, +3 RS for Splendor would be the ideal summoner shield, and something like +3 CE on it too would just make it awesome beyond words.

The problem is that anything even close to marketable is remotely rare, and its really not worth the time picking up every claw, head, and staff you find screening them for godliness - especially not the magic/rare ones you have to ID first :0

the main costs with any high-end PvP build are in the charmset, not in the equipment, ridiculous rares like that axe notwithstanding.

so BvBs and Zeal V Zeal pallys, both of which look for a full set of 3/20/20s, wind up having the most expensive charmsets. in terms of BvBs on West NL, a large cost comes in the form of z-bugged eth Fortitude Archon Plates. unfortunatly, with those things being so common, it's a huge barrier to entry for new BvBers. those with zbugs have a massive equipment advantage over Sacred fort users.

that said, a full set of 5/20s for a smiter or a BvC don't come cheap either.

in terms of equipment, any character that relies on having a few top-notch rare items in their kit tend to cost a fair bit. super high-end rare ww-sin fools claws can sell for a very pretty pixel. for that matter, so do runeword shells with sought after staffmods (+3LS/+3Venom 3sox -30WSM claws for example)

a 4sox claw? yup, that would be worth a fair bit....

I have once saw a really decked out description of a lightning javazon. I believe not a single one of the items was a runeword. They were all rares, uniques, and socketables ^.^ The gear was so rare it must've been worth a fortune. I'm trying to find it but I can't seem to be able to. It was on these forums that I found it I'm sure of it. I'll keep looking. It was an awesome item list.

EDIT: The gear doesn't seem to be as rare as I remembered, nevertheless, not a single runeword ^.^

I mean ANY 3os +40ias claw. They are quite rare. I've shopped anya for many ladders and never seen one. I got one randomly, almost didn't pick it up, 2 ladders ago and it made me rich that ladder.

I sold that claw for 130+ HRs in value.
