The future of information storage

......is on paper, believe it or not.

Sony’s 25GB paper Blu-Ray discs

We doubt there are many things in this world that store 25GB and are biodegradable, so kudos to Sony and Toppan Printing, who have come up with a type of media for the next-gen Blu-Ray Disc format that’s 51% paper. Advantages include being able to print complex designs on the label side, and post-disposal security since you can cut them in half with a pair of scissors. It’s not altogether clear at the moment how long the disks last, though, or whether they’re supposed to be semi-disposable or not.

That's interesting but kind of scary... Got secret info you don't want getting out to the feds? Just put it through a paper shredder or use it for fuel for your barbeque.

Sounds great for temp storage, but degrading media is bad for the long run.

I am waiting for crystal storage to come out, 1000gigs in a 1cm cube. And that is just the estimate now, once they get it working smaller laser could boost that to over 100 petabytes. . .*drool*

Holy crap, that's a lot of pr0n.
Ok now I am freaked out. I knew YOU specifically would post that exact thing. I think I need to put the forums down for a while. Nah, then I would get angry and you wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

I think the pr0n stars would get rubbed raw and quit or die of aids before you could fill up 100 petabytes of pr0n.
I think you underestimate the amount of pr0n that exists and the enthusiasm with which some people make it.
