Hey all;

What are your opinions for the runeword edge (tir tal amn) as a bow for lvling between lvls 21-40?

If so, what is an ideal bow to make it on?

While some may dismiss it as a crap runeword, I want to make it before the ladder ends =) Plus, you can't beat the 15% discount!

This is an awesome mid level runeword mainly due to the 320-380% damage to demons. This bow is probably the best boss-killer for early characters whether they are a zon or not. It also has +to all attributes along with PMH and Life Leech. Saying that this is not bad for a level 25 char is an understatement.

It's pretty tasty in a Rune bow. This gives you a nice mix of speed and power.

It's also the only thing my crafter/gambler wears ...
(Well, that and a Gheed's in his pocket.)

U mentioned the rune bow, looks great, but the prob is the rather high str and dex requirements for lvl 25...would a double or razor be better? These 2 also have the advantage of being -10 bows.

On that note, though this is not a trade thread, does anyone have a 3 socketed double/blade bow? Preferably superior too =) I play on USeast and my account name is einfyrno.

I've tried both Skystrike and Edge (made in Ashwood bow) and Skystrike worked a lot better. IMO Skystrike is the best bow for levels 28-42 (when Lyca bow becomes available), all mods are really useful. Here is the stats just in case you didn't know the bow:

Keep your eye out for +3 normal and exceptional amazon bows if youre into spending skill points in bowskills and other 15% ED level 25 bows if youre not.


Ive used zero bow skills and an edge bow to level comfortably up to 40 in single player online games and the thorns works nicely on the decoy, merc and amazon up to that level.


2.5 shots per sec is easily achievable for a player using a razor or double bow and an act 1 merc with some ias can reach 2 shots per second.

i have 3 pre-skystrike bows:

3 perf emerald long bow, lvl 18 req, 300 poison damage. if i have any problems at all killing bosses, i use this. after a3 though it takes a bit too long to kill stuff.

3 normal topz bow: lvl 12 req: 3-66 lightning damage. solid from a1-a3.

2 jewel of envy helm: 2-40 poison damage, no lvl req. i can use any bow. works well until lvl 12. kills almost everything in a1 in 1 hit. often i will use this with a 3 chipped diamond bow.

i also have a 4s stag bow and a 4s long bow in case i need other things. my plan is to use one of these with low level max damage jewels, a manald heal, and a cathan's ring. i think i can get the long bow to roughly 45 max damage at lvl 9, the stag to maybe 60. i'm also collecting more envy jewels, i think i have like 4 atm.

Suddenly had a thought: If I make Edge in a Composite bow with no lvl requirements, would it be viable from lvl 2 to, say, 25?

I already have witherstring (lvl 13) rogue's bow (lvl 20), wizendraw (lvl 26), skystrike (lvl 28), riphook (lvl 31), wws (lvl 39) and lycanders (lvl 42). So do you all think it is good to make edge a real twinking bow from level 2?

The lowest possible lvl to use an edge bow is lvl 25 because the Amn rune is lvl 25.

I have a +3 5os Stag bow for lvl 18 with 2 P Skulls and 3 P Cold Gems. I will be resocketing it with a lower requirement jewl/Hel Rune and min/max damage jewls which make more sense at that lvl.

Till lvl 18 I use Kaliems Will from the Act3 quest on Trist runs.

the best low level bow imho is probably a 6 socket long battle bow or long war bow with a hel rune in it and 5 chipped or normal gems of your choice. remember to get it from late normal or even nm before socketting it otherwise it may not get the full 6 sockets. imho, the amazon bows have too high of a lvl req, 14 or 20, to be useful.

it's probably a tad overkill though, as only bosses and immunes can even handle the 3 pemerald bow i made, and everything in act 1 can die to the 2 envy jewels.

ideally, you want a fast bow, probably with some leech, that does around 100 damage after stats/skills to get you through normal, something like the bow version of the cathan's tooth. the only answer would be LLD items like 9 max jewels, but they have lvl 9 reqs.
