the easiest way of making a succesful trappasin

hello everyone!

i thought id share my easy build, since i have been using it since 1.09, and never had regrets.

the assasin can do arcane runs in hell easy, and ancient tunnels are also no problem. in fact, most of hell can be done solo,if you are a bit fast and have some decent gear. and with decent gear i mean decent, not expensive.a trappasin can be really cheap, and yet very good!

skills:

the skills are really easy to subsribe, since they are all in the same tree, and all have synergy with eachother.

lvl 1-12: just get points even between firebomb and shockweb. no problem ey?;)

lvl12-24 charged bolt sentry and shock web. split skillpoints between them un till you can do lightning sentry.

24-30 all in lightning sentry.

30-60 max lightning sentry, and split rest between death sentry and shockweb.

60+ ok, the main reason why trappasins fail in lightning immume areas is because firebomb is to weak. so from lvl 60, remember to max out firebomb.
firebomb gives synergy to lightning sentry, so no worries, ur lighting dmg will be fine.
after that, max out death sentry. then its just simply the rest in charged bolt sentry, and shock web.
easy huh?

stats:
as far for the stats, here they are
strength: should be at least 156, for a monarch.
dex: nn to lvl.
mana:should have like 130 points, so you have enough mana base.without mana, ur trappasin is very weak.
vitality:rest. unless you want some specific gear,(put the remaing you need in strength then) the rest should be in life.as a trappasin, your life is important, when running solo certainly.you should be able to survive a good hit.

gear:

now we have come to the equipment part. easy and cheap!

weapons:2 3 to trap claws. should go around pul.
when youre not to fast, go for 1 3 to trap claw and a spirit shield.

armour:i suggest something with big defence, since assasins arent known for there great natural defence. gladiatorsbane would be a nice option for example. for a certain mana base, socket a perf skull in it.

helm: death horn cirlet it is a 2 to assa skills circlet with 13 to all res. not very expensive, but very important.

belt:now we have come to the only real expensive thing....thats right, arach.
a assasin can use the fcr,and the 1 to all skills is a very nice bonus for a belt.
if you cant get one,try find a decent defense belt. but i strongly recommend a arach.

amu: a 3 to trap amu. shouldnt be to hard to get.

rings: something with a nice fcr, or mana regeneration.
if your really low on runes, a manald isnt to bad.

gloves: not really a specific pair needed for assa, i suggest bloodfist for a good life base :)

other:

charms: mostly resistance charms, and 1 or 2 fhr.(faster hit recovery)
fhr is very important,so you can get away quickly. because the last thing you need with a trappasin, is a melee combat.

afterword:

i know this isnt a perfected guide, or the ultimate assasin.
though this build is easy to follow, and a great beginners char.
there are more expensive(better?) stuff to get for a trappasin, but i tried to keep it cheap and easy:) and with the stuff i recommended, you are quite fine.

no copycats please.
tips and suggestions on this guide are always welcome ofcourse.

thank you for reading, and enjoy playing with this build, as i did:)

Just a quick question regarding your suggestions for FCR gear:

Why FCR when traps are based on weapon speed?

Other than that it looks pretty similar to the first trapassin I guardianed with

Wouldnt a armor with some skills if you give your merc a insight?

And

helm: death horn cirlet it is a 2 to assa skills circlet with 13 to all res. not very expensive, but very important.

Isnt that a rare helmet?:)

And

an raven frost for the cannot be frozen thingy is godly to have:)

1. Trap claws should cause at most 100k gold. Try Anya.
2. Fire blast doesn't synergize lightning.
3. Assassins get crap defense no matter what you wear on them, pretty much, so I would go for a caster's armor for FCR (mind blast) and resist. Vipermagi is a lot more attractive IMO.
4. A ravenfrost is pretty much a must.

If I followed your guide I bet I'd have trouble in non light immune areas...

How much do your traps deal? 3k? XD

Actually, there's nothing wrong with this skill placement. It's more or less the standard fire blast light trapper. The trap damage shouldn't be too bad. It's the completely lack of utility skills and gear placement that worries me.

ah, i am srry, i thought fcr was on firebomb.

personally, i am not a big fan of ravenfrost.
but since i want to test it, i already bid at a auction.

for the skills placement, nothing wrong, and hell will do just fine with the equip i said, at least for me.

i am just trying to help players.
if anyone is willing to help me to make this a better manual, it is no problem at all.

with friendly greetings.
Minamo.

2 *** skill rare or peasant crown
2 x +3 claws socket sheal shael in the first.
Que Hagens Wisdom or viper magi
Bloodfist
War travs
+3 trap ammy
Raven and any resist cast ring
Thundergods vigor or Arach

fairly cheap to get hold of and providesgood amount of skills

1 point in fade and 1 point in mind blast and then traps.

this will provide a decent trap laying speed and ok resists in hell.

You could replace your Quehegan or vipermagi by a treachery runeword. It is not much more expensive, +2skills, 45ias, 20fhr are much better than those fcr armors. You don't need much fcr , unless you could teleport with an enigma, but that wouldnt be a cheap build anymore.
Im sure someone will said "yeah, but vmagi got all res and treachery have only +30% cold". When u will need resists, there is a nice mod on treachery to cast lvl15 fade when struck. At lvl15, fade gives you a nice 60 all res and 15% dmg reduction. THe only drawback of fade is that if you are using BoS, fade will overrun it.

Omg I didn't even know about treachery. I'm gonna make one asap for my trapper

How can I forget about this piece of gem?

The only drawback of fade is that if you are using BoS, fade will overrun it.
Not only that, a trapper will normally not come into a position where Fade will trigger reliably. So unless you are going to stand in a fire somewhere every few minutes, you don't have much benefit from it.

I'm confused why this is considered a guide.

See also, jrichard's trapper.

minamo, I appreciate that you want to help out. But there are a few details. 1) It helps if you know the build well, not just one thing that worked with you. 2) Wording, communication, communication, communication. You say easy and cheap and then reference a piece of gear which is at best a common dupe. Really, there are a few key goals for a trapper, none of which are mentioned:

  • High lightning damage (synergies with +skills)
  • A way to deal with immunes (fire blast, high ias, and a merc usually take care of this)
  • resists to lower incoming damage
  • crowd control (one-point wonders like cloak/mind blast)
  • as much life as possible after the above goals are met
