The early d3 mood: Why didn't I think of this sooner?

So I was thinking recently that the reason d3 appears more colorful and cheery, not full of gore, and 'toned down' is simple: Blizzard is ADVERTISING the game and if they make it look too dark, scary and bloody, too many younger children won't be allowed to buy it. What we are seeing in the gameplay video IS A TRICK!! We are being tricked into thinking the game is lighter and less violent for 2 reasons:

1- To trick parents into thinking it's OK for them to buy d3 for their youngins'. Brilliant. Blizzard said there WILL be bodies on hooks and spears like in the old days...we just haven't been exposed to it yet.

2-When the game comes out, we are going to be bombarded with blood and gore. Anyone who thought d3 was not dark and scarry enough is going to eat their words. If we all saw a bloody terrifying gameplay video beforehand, there would be no great surprise on release day! Again, brilliant. Blizzard is set out to shock us.

Imagine you're a parent and you see The Butcher part of d1. Are you going to let your 8 year old play that? The smart thing to do is not show that during the early advertising days and trick everyone into buying the game for their kids.

lol, they alreayd stated the game is going to get much darker as we progres throuhg the game. The real thing ot keep in mind it has been 20 years since the owrld has seen evil, and people believe everything that has happened was nothing but a myth, funny thought though.

Stillman, you should read my thread on gore. There were some good answers on there from a few people about this topic.

That's what I was thinking. What percentage of parents go online to read reviews, look at screenshots, and scour web forums to determine if the game is ok for their child? Most parents I know would have the box handed to them in the store, they'd check the screenshots on the back and look for the rating. I doubt they'd go home and check the official Blizzard releases first.

Well you could also go with the reasoning that 'Hey, the Prime Evils are dead; The world is great; Everything is awesome!'.

Or... we have seen a small part of ONE area of the game, so we know close to nothing ;)

An area which was "engineered" to show off key aspects of the new engine and in no way represents a portion of the game.

All the things you hold most dearly.... GO!

and the world it dies, in my grip!

But no seriously, you're right. It's going to be a real mindbender when the game comes out and people find out it's a lot more gruesome than they initially postulated.

I hope this game has a rating that befits the gore and violence. Keep the 12 year old halo-kids out of this game.
