So, uh, it's kinda been bothering me for a while... why does almost every forum on these boards have an off-topic thread of its own? o_O I... I don't get it. Is it some in joke? Just... a habit that refuses to die?

What's the deal?! I don't get it!!!!!111 *Runs away screaming.*

OT questions like this need to be posted in the appropriate OT thread in the relevant forum.

Why does it bother you? You should join in on the shenanigans. The OT threads are alot of fun.

IIRC, the 'tradition' started in the D2 US West Trade subforum as a way for posters to make small talk and bond without derailing the actual trading topics. The idea was ported over to D2 Community to combat the frequent OT threads that were cluttering up the front page. It was a "big hit" so pretty soon most of the subforums had dedicated OT sticky threads of their own.[SUP]*[/SUP]

So why don't people who want to post OT just post in the OTF? 1) Some regulars just don't like to venture outside their favorite subs (especially true of SPFers) and we didn't feel a need to try and push them; 2) The OTF used to be a pretty intimidating sub to dive into especially if you were a newbie.

Hope that clears things up a bit. :)

[SUP]*[/SUP]Though I can't recall the details of its history offhand, the memorial bar in the SPF might be the oldest dedicated OT thread on this site. It just wasn't influential in the outbreak I just described.

It bothers me because I might be about as crazy as people posting in off topic threads in on-topic forums instead of on-topic threads in off-topic forums, except differently. XD In my vacations from the asylum I teach cats lessons on curiosity.

1,000th post. *Puts on tinfoil party hat.*

Well tell more people to stop by. Many of us don't bite, and pants are optional.

The Bar is far and away the oldest OT thread still running. It is also the best. And the biggest. And the balls-to-the-wallest. And the *****inest. And the drinkfullest.

The E-bar is the only thing that saved me from losing this place in more than 1 ID

maybe it's because I'm tired and it's past midnight, but this did not make any sense to me, lol! This place saved me from getting killed in mafia games all the time (also made me some enemies and a certain playstyle. A game is not a game unless i'm in it spamming the **** out of it. That's actually what all my posts are because.... well, because, okies?) and it soon became home away from home away from home. :cloud9: met some cool peeps and have made lots of good memories of any and most of the OT threads.

That's so wonderful. I almost feel like giving you a cookie and beginning a slow-clap for you.... Almost. Instead, Im going to chuckle and go to sleep. Sound good? :D

    Oh...

*throws you a box of condoms, a gallon of lube, leather mask, pogo stick*

once you know what the pogo stick is for, then I can pass down my taser gun and a car battery.

Can I put this in a "best of mod responses" thread?

I need to make that someday along with the Anti version under another name.
    :D

    To the OP Here

Off Topic is just that. It happens naturally everywhere and a lot in the right place for it.

The Treads are a sorting method.

In hindsight, perhaps I should be thankful that the offtopicness at least mostly confines itself to offtopic threads in ontopic forums instead of spilling over to the ontopic threads in ontopic forums. I'd probably permanently go off my own topic. :action-smiley-061:

How do you feel when off topic threads in the off topic forum go off topic? because someone complained about that recently.

the druid forum OT was in there pretty early, necro forum I can't remember when they joined it, but they needed it since the place was swarming with trolls, but the fun kind of trolls

the class and trade forums had a greater sense of community and the OT moderators were psychotic and evil

in the beginning it was the trade forums and the druid forum, I can't say what was first, or which ballooned to insane proportions first, but the big timey smappangists congregated in each

What the heck? An OT thread and nobody told me?

I don't really get the whole OT culture yet, but I'm trying to learn!

I have no idea what the blue hell you just said but here's some more trivia for you: Even the OTF used to have an OT thread. Wrap your head around that! :D

    *mulls over resurrecting it*

Wait, so if this is the off topic thread in the off topic forum, then that means we should use it to talk about Diablo...
