The Departed

Scorsese's newest movie is by far the best one I've seen all year, and I've see a LOT of them. You should all see it. Now. Quit reading this and GO!

I'm too poor to see it. unless of course they allow me to pay in buttons and pop bottles, then I can easily afford to go see it.

Its a remake of a Hong Kong film called Infernal Affairs which is also a really good movie. Its not out here yet but if I get a chance Ill go see it.

The original is always better than the American remake.
Unless the original was also directed by Scorcese and included a cast as outstanding as this one, then I'm sure I'll be disagreeing with you on this one.

Im not sure about the director of Infernal Affairs but Andy Lau and Tony Leung are 2 of the best actors in Hong Kong, Andy Lau is the highest paid actor in Hong Kong and Tony Leung is also high up there.

I dont see how Matt Damon and Leonardo Dicaprio can compare with those two because I havent really seen anything outstanding from those two but I guess Ill have to watch the movie.

Eric Tsiang did a really good job of playing the mob boss especially since all the movies I've seen him in has been comedy but I know Jack Nicholson is a good actor so Jack will probably beat him there.

The main problem I have with The Departed is that they changed the ending, the ending is one of the most important parts of the movie to me. Infernal Affairs is a trilogy and they only bought the rights to the first film so I guess they had to have a happy ending.

@Dondrei:Didnt you like the original version of The Ring?

I would've agreed with that until I saw both versions of Ring.
I have to totally agree with you on that. The Ring was so much better than Ringu or any of it's sequels (Rasen, Ringu 2, Ringu 0). Now i havent seen The Ring 2 but i don't want to either.

I saw the American one first, maybe that prejudiced me but personally I thought the Japanese one was only about 70% of what the remake was. Things were made more consistent and it ended up making sense, I liked that better than the original which frankly didn't go anywhere. Also Naomi Watts put in a great performance.

I havent seen the American version but I really enjoyed the japanese version not for the horror but for the kind of fantasy feel of it. I liked the story more than the suspense.

Oh wow, I just saw a trailer: Jack Nicholson trying to do an accent? God help us all! Almost as bad as Liam Neeson and Harrison Ford trying to do Russian accents in K19. If you have a strong accent or well-known, distinctive voice, just give up on the idea of accents.

The voice over on the trailer here put me off, 'JacknicholsonleonardodicapriomattdamonamartinscorsesefilmTHEDEPARTED!'
Bleurgh. Its had some pretty good reviews tho, & is supposed to be better than the original (which is Internal Affairs, btw)

Wow I really want to say something here but it'll spoil the movie. Just trust me, the ending is one of my favorites of any movie I've seen.

Yeah the trailer is pretty lame, but the movie far outshines it.

It looks like this is a really good movie too bad I have no one to go with :(.

About the ending I didnt mean happy in the sense of feeling good but rather the bad guy doesnt win. Ive read the ending but of course it could be different. The ending in Infernal Affairs was one of my favourite parts of the movie and it ties into one of the main themes of the movie but since they aren't making a trilogy I can see why Martin Scorcese would choose to end it like that(presuming that the ending I read about is correct).

It's very very good, but I thought it got a bit silly at the end.

Agreed, this is why I would prefer the original.
