    The Cicadas are Coming!

Just to lighten up your week, this note,

    http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/Northeast/03/12/cicadas.return.ap/index.html

Years ago when I was a lad, a big ole cicada somehow got into our house, landed on our drapes and began his noisy serenade. Being rather ignorant about these critters at the time. I rolled up a newspaper and whacked at him. He let out a loud, blood-curdling scream and I just felt terrible. Fortunately, he was only stunned and I took him gently by the wings and led him outside to freedom.

I never forgot that incident ... so many years ago. :D

Ohio Valley up to Michigan? I'm boned.

I'm used to cicadas though. I just hate those nasty shells they leave behind. :(

I love the exoskels...they're fun to throw at annoying little sisters...

Awesome...I was up in WVA when a brood came out a few years back, and they were all over the place. Better than in texas, where you get caterpillars and beetles coming in after a certain # of years...

We get those every single year in Arizona. So I guess even though they grow, or live, or hibernate, or whatever, for 13-17 years in the ground, at least one new batch surfaces every year. It's pretty annoying, but after a bit, it just becomes background noise that you don't even notice anymore. Like the murmur of people talking in a restaurant. It's not annoying because it's constant.

Cicadas are really cool. Just as long as they're not within a few feet when they start their noise. I found a live one on the pavement once.

I almost forgot...something I used to do when the noise became even too unbearable for me. Get a water pistol, find a cicada on a tree branch, and BLAST AWAY! Those tough, armored bugs aren't gonna get hurt by it, but it sure made me feel better.
