The Challenge: The Most Effective PvP Char for Pennies

What would be the cheapest (as in dirt...) yet most effective PvP character? I've done the decked out rich PvPer time and time again. What build would be able to take out 60% to 75% (or better) of the pubby field with equipment that would make most people laugh? I want them to laugh. Then I want them to die. :innocent:

    Work through this with me.

18 to 20 life sc are allowed since they can be accumulated with only medium effort.
Or, plain crap stat skill charms can be used.
    Assume crap stat anni.
Things like stormshield and the like are of course fair game.
    Crappy stat CoA is fairgame.
Fast cast ammies are ok but not the +2 skill variety.
Hard to get rares are not an option, simply because they are hard to get.
    Upped items are ok.
No enigma or hyper expensive runewords (or runes).
I COULD (perhaps) be persuaded to allow the enigma high-level runeword ONLY, perhaps in a cracked breastplate for effect. :uhhuh:

Anything goes including loads of slow and/or knockback, amp, life tap, decrep, etc.

What are the build options with these constraints?
What are the non-cookie-cutter build options?

200 fcr sorc is much cheaper than hammerdin, gets teleport faster than the 1337's, and does good damage, along with some nice defense (eshield).

Dirty Poor But Still Wants to Duel effectively Mini-Guide:

    Gear:
    Equipment:
    20 fcr-circlet 'Shael'
    20 fcr-ammy
    30 fcr-Vipermagi 'Shael'
    50 fcr-Wizspike 'Hel'
    20 fcr-Lidless 'P diamond'
Memory on switch (no mods on staff if your going super dirt cheap) for Eshield buff
    20 fcr-Arachnid
    20 fcr-2x 10% fcr rings
    20 fcr-Magefist
    Silkweaves

    Inventory:
    10x fire gc no mods
    10/10/5 anni
    8x 16-18 life sc
    1x 5% fhr sc

    Specs:
~110 resist all (depends on vipermagi stats)
    9 Frame FHR (Req: 42% Gear: 45%)
7 Frame Casting (Req: 200% fcr Gear: 200%)*editors note: dur thats the point of this build*)
    +11 fire skills
    +4 all skills
    12k Fireball
    9K Firebolt
59% Eshield with 16 telekenisis (1 damage taken, 1 mana lost)

    Skill/Stat:
    Skills (at level 90):
    Fire Tree-
    20 firebolt
    20 fireball
    20 meteor
    20 fire mastery
    1 warmth
    3 pre-req.

    Light Tree-
    16 Telekenisis (1 damage taken=1 mana lost)
    1 teleport
*Energy shield will be granted by Memory weapon switch

    Cold Tree-
    None

    Stat:
Str: Enough for Gear. Maximum requirement is 65 str from Silkweave and 75 dex from Wiz spike, anni lowers these by 10.

    Dex: 75 with Gear on.

Vit: Pump until it has base 200

    Energy: Rest

    Cost (USWest NL):
    Arachnid (1 High rune)
    Crap Anni (1 high rune)
10x Fire GC (10 high rune)
8x Life sc + 1x FHR sc (1 high rune)
Rest of gear (1 high rune)

Total of 14 high runes for NL USWest... Keep in mind that 12 p amy=1 rune, so even if you JUST started playing you could get this guy up in about a month

Take out the fire gc's, and you've got a 4 high rune pvper, although the fireball damage goes from 12k to 6k :(

Well, I don't know if it's equipment or what, but I know that my cowazon decked out in crap that makes most people tilt their heads goes about 50-50 with a melee chars. Full lightning damage... you'd probably want to tweak that to get more into the passives. Java skill charms are one of the cheapest, if you were going to allow them.

Helm : shako/vampgaze, preferrably shako. low level facet, possibly?
Armor : smoke? Nice for resists, nef+lum = free armor.
Weapon : Titans. Going for the +Skills here.
    Sheild : Stormsheild
Belt : String of ears, to hit 50% dr
Gloves : magical +3 java/20 ias, bought from vendors.
Boots : waterwalks, life + dex = beautiful.
Jewellry could vary. I'm not sure if CS uses ar or not, if it does, you want angelic combo. I don't think it does, though, in which case you'll want highlord's if you think it fits, otherwise cat's eye works (dex is always a good thing, and gotta love the r/w!) rings ... one ravenfrost, of course, low end are cheap I've seen them given for free. The other... maybe another ravenfrost for the dex, if you're not wearing angelic's? Or maybe a crafted blood ring, with mana leech?

Fairly straightforward build, though I don't go pvp... not sure how viable it would ACTUALLY be, unfortunately. And admittedly it seems to be bordering on that cookie-cutter stage. But it IS a very inexpensive build, with a great deal of room for changing it around. Want more life? Switch the storm for a 2x eld mosers. LOTS of dex saved. Want to make it a little more expensive? Throw a low coh on her instead of smoke.

All I know is I have a lot of fun screwing around with friends with my cowazon.

The sorceress is a great idea! A bone necro would be a close second, with very similar gear. I don't have time to go into detail like soc did, but perhaps I will sometime. Gear very similar, except marrows for boots and necro skill things like homoculous and boneshade. Fairly inexpensive build, but can take out quite a bit.

i'd go with the sorc, because 200 fcr pwns most people anyways.

why make the charms crappy [at least..the anni] when 9/10 nobody is going to see it?

good way to sneak in some stats

saw a really nice thread about caster killer vita barbs the other day, and made one based on what they said. it actually calls for breast plate enigma, so that would fit. only problem i see would be the weapons, they were a bit xpensive (grief and beast zerker) but u might find sumthing to sub for those. one guy mentioned dual umed wizy spikes for open wounds, and u just touch them to death. Heres wut a cheap gear setup would be:

    bp enigma

    dual umed wizy spikes

    arreats

    dracs

    gores

any belt u want, if ur into open wounds make a blood belt (crafting is easy!!!...if u dont mind using crap)

    highlords ammy

    dual ravenfrosts

u can sub one of the wizy spikes for an ss for melee

    skills:

    20 wirlwind

    20 mastery

    20 bo

20 leap if ur gonna go all against casters (stun range) or go shout if u want to go melee (but u might not be as good here)

u can pick and choose wut to do with other skills

    stats:

all into vita. take nothing else.

    charms:

anni (optional, but of course it helps)

lots and lots of life scs

basically u outlast any attack. mine has about 5k life so far, but i dont have many life scs. its definitely a fun build, u might want to try it. look for the thread in the barb forum, i forget the title but its about BvC barbs and has like 30 pages. gl!

If it's all about the OW, why mess with the highlords? Perhaps an angelic ammy + ring to help vs. high defense hammer pallys. Or a maras or a cheap metalgrid?

You did yours with the wizzys? Works well?

Also, how does that high level leap do? Nice knockback? Momentary stun? Does it help mess up teleport and minion stack?

hammerdin with viper magi + wiz + arach + mage +1 10% fcr crap ring and youve got a 125% fcr hammerdin with 10k hammers, max resist, godly life (you can hit 3800 with 20 life scs. ^^

    non cookie cutter... hmmm...

    1) Yes.
    2) Yes.
    3) Yes.

Leap is godly but perhaps you dont have to max it.
I did on my barb though, it's hilarious to knock back people ~2 screens away (horizontal). Anyway, ~slvl 22 leap is enough from what I've heard (I have slvl 30 with gear).
And yes, it messes up pretty much everything; teleport, spam, minionstacking, you name it.

I heard a lvl 15 leap is sufficient for a full screen radius?

My singleplayer test barb maxed it for a lvl 28 leap, and I wouldn't want less now. It's just too much fun messing with everyone

A few things. 10 Fire GCs, regardless of other mods, is not cheap. And I think people are still looking too expensive, these builds are not pennies.

    My thoughts:
    Singer Barb
    Dual 'Hel' Wizzy
Upped(or not) Vipermagi or alternatively Upped(or not) Que Hagans
Shako/+3 War Cries Magic Barb Helm w/ mana
    Frosties/Magefists
Arach/One of many belts with mana/resists/life(just to shore up weak points)
2x Soj/Rare FCR rings w/ any decent mods
    Waterwalks(life)/Silks(mana)
    Any Anni(if its allowed)
    Any WC GCs
2x Echoing Weapons for prebuffs(cheap and easy to shop)
    Mana charms

    20 War Cry
    20 Battle Cry
    20 Howl
    20 BO
    1 - Increased Speed/Stamina/Iron Skin/Nat Resists
    1 - Leap
20 Taunt(in my opinion max last)
Extra in whatever you need(maybe shout?)

Str - Just enough for gear which wont be high
    Dex - 60 for Wizzys
    Vita - Rest
    Eng - None

Nothing on the list costs more than a Soj I believe, and most of the items are very inexpensive. Mana will be your biggest problem but BO obviously helps a ton, especially with mana charms. Easy to hit 105 FCR with Wizzys and 5FCR anywhere. Easy to hit max resists in hell. 30+ from Nat resist, 75 from each Wizzy already puts you at 180 in hell not including anya or any other item you are wearing. High life(4K+ with no sweat, I have seen 7k+ before with nice gear). You will be able to kill most anything besides WW i think because of stun from War Cry(~6sec or more is easily achieved). Overall a very simple build with easy to obtain cheap gear that is very effective in PvP as long as you can use it right.

definately a killer for pennies in my book.

I think your best bets either a lit 200 cast sorc or the Bvc barb described with angelics and either arach or any half decent 5-10% caster belt too hit the 105 cast bp.
