The Auradin

    Are they still viable in 1.13? Do you still play one? How does the stacking process work? I've never heard of this kind of Paladin build until recently, since I've been gone from the game for quite some time.

    I don't recall any Nerfs to the Auradin in recent patches. I'm not 100% sure if a 1.13/1.14 Auradin has as much firepower as the original 1.10 version, but IMHO the Auradin is still a very viable character.


    Yes!!!!! Even though he is not the most optimal character for the area, I use my Auradin for Travincal runs. He is one of my favorite characters, so I just don't want to see him retired.

    Runeword Dream in a helm + shield grants slvl 30 Holy Shock aura. Runewords Dragon and Hand of Justice (when used together) grant slvl 30 Holy Fire aura. Equip those four runewords, max conviction, max synergies to Holy Fire and Holy Shock, and put enough in Zeal to reach the max number of whacks per click or frames per attack or whatever its called. Its important to note that you don't want to put any hard points into Holy Fire or Holy Shock, as they won't improve your damage any. Actually 1 point for Holy Fire, cause its a prereq for Conviction LOL. On my Auradin I also put points into Sacrifice as IIRC it is a synergy to Zeal.

    I saw a video of an auradin just running through hell act 5 Worldstone 1-2 killing everything with just aura. Didn't even need to swing at anything. I'm assuming that's 1.10?

    Hard to say without looking at the video. I just did a quick players 1 Trav run using just the auras. I still killed everything without having to Zeal, it just wasn't as fast as using Auras + Zeal together.

    And a quick YouTube search turned up this video from 1.12. This Pally was indeed using Auras only, and pwning quite hard. Judging by some of the comments, it looks like there was a bug that caused 1.12 Auradins to be uber pwn, but it got fixed in 1.13 apparently. If you do a Google or forum search for 'Diablo 2 Aura stacking bug' or something similar that may provide more info as well.

    Urkel is right on the money. There was a bug that had to do with you trading gear with your merc and the aura stacking endlessly. Or maybe it was through the trade window.

    Either way, he is also correct that it is a very viable character and kills really fast. I built one on bnet years ago, and I remember having life leech problems because of low physical damage and everything being dead so fast!

    Just remember you need 2 surs 2 jahs.oh and a Cham for that build !

    Edit: I'm contemplating starting a character .. even though I'm ages away from the actual RWs .. still they have to get through the boring bits before they can equip them .. and its ONLY basically the equivalents of a zod .. thats not hard these days!

    I see this in Arreat Summit:
    Dream 3 Socket Helms/Shields

    If the character has helm and shield .. AND if you put one on the merc, does that mean level 45 Holy shock?

    But you could put them on an enchantress with maximized lightning mastery and a Passion phaseblade with her merc wearing Infinity. Lightning mastery will apply its bonus twice onto lightning damage if dealt by melee attacks and thus increase damage by a factor of 25 or so while fire mastery does the same with enchant damage.

    So, Auraress can put out more damage than an Auradin?

    Probably yes, but a sorc is a bit more fragile. I guess the sorc will still do better in total.

    A couple of years ago (on bnet), I made one with maxed FO while enchant wasn't fully synergized. It was kind of a working three element sorc, although she was cheating a bit on the lightning tree :)

    Yes, a sorc can probably put out more damage. There are a number of differences though. Sorc can only have a level 12 conviction as opposed to the level 25 of the paladin. The Sorcs masteries add more damage than the paladin's synergies. The paladin's zeal will always be faster than the Sorc's zeal. Paladins are sturdier than a sorc is with blocking and vit. Zeal sorc the weapon choice is limited to passion while pally can use whatever (HOJ or CM).

    Bear sorcs are a popular choice because they alleviate many of the downsides of choosing sorc over pally.

    LR maxes out at ~65% while Conviction maxes at -150 and necros have no masteries nor synergies
