the appeal of gear-dependent builds

[forgive my rant. this is just something that irrationally irks me and i wanted to get it out]

well, to me, there is none. If your build can only succeed with the right übergear, then it's not really a great build - it's just a great use of equipment.

It always irks me when I read a guide and equipment is the make-or-break feature of the build. To me, a build should be based around the skills - something every character, HC or Soft, twinked or untwinked, is capable of acheiving.

Sure gear is important, and we all want übergear, but am I alone in not liking the idea of characters only viable with it? Were it up to me, I'd seperate out 'gear-dependent' builds and give them a seperate section so as not to clutter up the guides with builds that can't be played by caual/poor/untwinked players.
