Technical issue entering battle.net password

So, in an attempt to pre-game for the eventual release of Diablo III, I thought I'd fire up the ol' DII account and get into PvP again. However, I'm no longer able to enter my password because I'm apparently no longer able to enter alt ascii codes into the password field, nor am I able to paste any characters into it (the password contains a "¿"). I'm sure the account's still active, because it says "wrong password" instead of "account does not exist". Unfortunately Blizz no longer offers phone support for DII (which is preposterous), and their email support staff seem to be taking their sweet time, so I'm wondering if anybody here might have a solution to my dilemma. Any input is very much appreciated.

Hmm, did you register an email address with the account or was this before they implemented that functionality?

Unfortunately, the account was inherited from a friend, and tied to an email account that he has not used in many years and is no longer accessible. I assume, in that case, that changing the password is not an option.

You could try switching to a different keyboard layout, such as Latin American Spanish.
