Then we disagree. I find actual dishonesty far more reprehensible than being loquacious or a good salesperson, particularly for a public leader or media figure.

I'm actually somewhat surprised that you'd accept it so calmly.

Perhaps my sarcasm was of the wrong kind. I meant it from the perspective of those who are trying to make a good impression and that only works if the audience believes that you are honest.

Fair enough, but that's not what I was addressing.

That's because I agree with you. The problem is to catch the good liars, so it's not always easy to distinguish honesty from lies. I think that dishonest people are caught sooner or later, but that might just be my naivety.

    Whoops, I've been sarcastic again.

Chopra is a joke, and doesn't understand the words he's using. I bet he couldn't even define the word quantum, let alone frequency, wavelength, harmonics, etc. One hilarious example of Chopra's view about science- and evidence-based reasoning is his "challenge" a few months ago to the JREF

    http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/2...-challenge-to-james-randi-over-consciousness/

In fact I think I might watch that video again for laughs.

I don't care much for Tyson but I don't know much about him. One thing I definitely don't like is his (probably) dishonest stance on atheism vs agnosticism. (I'm almost certain he knows better). I've described it here on another forum (video link included). One thing I DO not like about "him" is the constant referral to him and how much people love science while simultaneously not understanding what science is. Maddox lays out the truth, here.

    Quantum is a furniture store;
    Frequency a type of plum.
    Wavelength is a hairdo;
    Harmonics is a musical instrument.

I was prepared to dislike this link, but it's really very good.

Of course, it's also pretty much exactly what I'm saying about SCIENCE!!!ONE! in the God thread, so I suppose I'm easily amused. I also learned a redeeming feature of Chopra, when I thought he had none (he despises the pedophilia-approving Richard Dawkins AKA "The Atheist Pope")

One of the conservative bloggers (Ace of Spades, maybe?) was using this Twitter handle for a while: "I love science sexually"... I think it was about the same time as Dyson was getting discredited for his makey-ups; someone pointed out how his fans use the meme with his dreamy face, a star-field, and one of the quotes.

Myself, I kind of think of the jokes about Billy Dee Williams' and Carl Sagan's love-child...

<3 Maddox. Some of his arguments are silly but he's got good delivery which makes for good entertainment. Possibly the 'original' angry ranter online. I also like his new podcast The Biggest Problem in the Universe with Dick Masterson

I'll need a reference and/or context on the pedophilia-approving statement about Dawkins. He gets a lot of flack from atheists for being blunt or being anti-theistic in general, which I think is silly, but I'm sure there are other things I disagree with him on. I would hope he's not a fan of pedophilia, though ;)

Oh, come on now - you proudly post links about yourself as a "skeptic", yet not only are you an Obama fanboy but you can't and didn't use Google to know about Dawkins? (Sourced from Salon, one of the most puerile Left-wing sites I can stomach)

You clearly are reading pro-democratic opinions into my other posts. You apparently missed the line where I said Obama was nowhere near progressive enough and is only moderately successful on some issues, while completing failing on others. He has no spine imo, which I suspect has something to do with being a corporatist.

Yes, as a skeptic I wait for others to provide sources for their claims if I ask for them, rather than assuming that my gogglefu would find me articles they agree with entirely. thanks for complying :D

Having read your link, I noticed in the top right corner of my browser a rbutr popup = a rebuttal article. In fact, there were two articles rebutting this one. I read one of them, here. Turns out that after he explained himself it's not so disgusting after all. He should have just been more clear to begin with. BTW, I highly suggest the rbutr app.

I'm doing my DDO housekeeping but I wanted to clean as I go...
You're demonstrating the classic Commie principle that when their god-hero fails, they blame the messenger for not being pure *enough*. The Democrat party are only a couple of degrees more sickening and laughable than the GOP, since the GOP is still ashamed to be fully corrupt.
At some point, you'll realize that to be Progressive is to be corporatist. At that point your enlightenment will commence.

Whereas, I view this as an entirely craven demand that others dance for my amusement while I spitball them, never bothering to defend my own beliefs. You're batting 1K.

OMG, someone backpedals furiously after revealing themselves to be absolute filth! SHOCK! DISMAY! None of my allegations about Dawkins being reprehensible filth for endorsing diddling can apply, of course, since he would otherwise be revealed as a truly despicable monster and therefore obscured his claims in clouds of squid-like bullshit-inking.

You can insert your own [/sarcasm] tags as you like. The fact that you believe that falsified excuses to avoid ongoing scandal provide exculpatory validity reveals a MASSIVE amount about your own beliefs.

I'll have to start searching for "Chairman Meow" images...

Who is my "god-hero"? How is it a "commie principle"?
Funny, I consider the democrat party only a few degrees less sickening than the republicans ;)
Funny assertion, why not elaborate how to be progressive one needs to be a corporatist? That's one of the funnier things I've read from you.
Sorry, didn't realize you don't like to backup your claims and expect everyone to already know where you know the things you do.
What exactly did Dawkins say that makes him absolute filth? Or whatever it is that you find reprehensible, if we're going to assume it was all an exaggerated paragraph. You linked me an entire article that exaggerated his statement without including the qualifiers that he did such as "I don't think (he did any of us lasting harm)". He very clearly isn't saying pedophilia is right or even acceptable. His statement was just that the abuse he received didn't do HIM any harm nor does he think that it harmed any of his peers who were also abused.
I get that you don't like Dawkins and will stick with whatever first negative belief you have about him, but you should at least be honest and correct your position once you've realized you're wrong. Or did you not read both articles? Dawkins didn't backpedal, he used an addendum to clarify his position and knowledge and to dispel misinformation about his opinion

Also wth does the bolded part mean? It's gibberish

Ok, you obviously don't know that "Progressive" is actually historical shorthand for "progressing towards True Communism". Progressives believe in over-arching AKA totalitarian Gov't, but believe they can magically make it work - the best case having been the USSR.

The "God-Hero" is another historical shorthand for the Communist version of the 'uber-mensch'.
Well, there might be hope for you except that I bet you think the Dems ought to be <more> Socialist/Progressive, not less.
Sadly, you misunderstood. Progressivism is a confidence game, because those at the top invariably are moving their wealth into off-shore or secret Swiss bank accounts. In Obama's case, he's closer to historical fascism than communism, despite his devout Marxist upbringing, because he's more interested in scratching the backs of people like Jeff Immelt (G.E.) and George Soros than he is in snuggle-bunnies with outright Communists. I think that's legitimate realpolitik on his part rather than any betrayal of his morals, because he's definitely laid the path towards complete socialized medicine with the Rube Goldberg affair of Obamacare - so he's definitely carried through with his Marxist-inspired plan to "fundamentally transform America". I doubt the GOP are going to be interested in stopping it either, since they're just as eager to loot the system and continue oligarchy as the Dems are.
Actually, I provide far more sourcing for claims than pretty much any member of the OTF - it's just that I tire of having to rehash issues I've previously established, and you're demanding that I reiterate things I've discussed a dozen or more times.
I'll readily admit that his claim that he didn't suffer any harm from the very sort of perverted experience that is firmly established as harmful goes towards my belief that he's a twisted, sick SoB.

He believes that pedophilia, committed by a serial homosexual adult abuser from a position of authority, is innocuous.

    That's grotesque.

However, if you're intent on playing word games in order to allow someone to completely erase the intent of their original statement by whatever bullcrap they spew once caught out, then I'll ensure that I apply the same metric in the future to your claims. For my part, I don't believe that people covering their ass once they make truthful yet humiliating statements is legitimate - one can equivocate and lie away pretty much any horrible assertion if one's enough of a wordsmith.
Sorry I didn't express myself in short monosyllable words. What I said above. If you believe that someone lying through their teeth to avoid humiliating themselves due to their original position, then it speaks volumes about your own likely lack of impartiality and objective stance. You'll take any excuse for your allies and no excuse from your foes sort of thing.

Tyson and Chopra are Men of Straw? Who knew? I thought they were what all you cool kids in SoCal were reading...

Hardly surprising they worked in a Chopra joke for Oprah; she's been a better springboard for more vacuous mumbo-jumbo than the Victorian Era.

    Guy's completely lost it (if that's a genuine tweet ;) ).

Everyone knows there are ten Amendments because there are ten commandments from the bible book.

Oh wait - nope. Not ten Amendments after all. I guess that makes the bible book wrong. Again.
