Depending on how rich you are, you might be able to obtain an Andariel's Visage helm, it's what most people use for their merc initially since it gives +25 to 30 strength as well as other nice stats. Duriel's Shell also gives +15 strength in the armour slot. Or Griswold's set armour with some P amethysts socketed in it, that could give up to +50 strength.

It's actually not too hard to obtain the 200 STR, depending on what level you are. My merc at lvl 80 just needed like +22 str (i think)

I changed a lot after this thread. Now i am wearing:

Full tall set.
nagelring 28/29
wts 36
trang oul gloves (for the extra cold res although it isn't actually needed)
spirit 35
gheeds 26
torch,ani (they are quite low but i don't actually need that much more res as you can see and the xtra stats will only give some life/mana but not enough to make it worth the MONEY).

Characteristics:
I break the 105 fcr breakpoint D)
Blizz dmg: 5k
Glacial spike:1.1-1.2 k
Ice blast: 2.2-2.3k
Life: 1365
Mana 650
53fr/max cold,light/58poison res.


Merc gear:
Eth duriel's shell(i am planning on upgrading it because it gets almost 2000def)
Gaze 8ll/18dr
Still unique Ogre Axe.

It has 63resistances(max at cold).

He is lvl 82 (i am 84) and my merc need only 4 more lvl to get 200str(with duriels).

My future plans are to improve merc gear and to get fr/pr scs to make max res.

So my questions are:

1)What should i socket my armor with? I am thinking about an UM because this will allow me to have max res. (An easier option for me would be a ed jewel but i am really inclined to that um)

2)Is andys visage really worth it if i can already have the req str?I suppose i should get an eth gaze though(i will up it 2)

3) Best weapon would be an etc cv insight right?

4) Glacial Spike vs Ice Blast!


Anymore more advices....?

Do you play on the euro sc ladder Ilumm? I could give you a 4 socket thresher (152str, 118dex) just as a stopgap until you find an ethereal polearm.

One more thing i realised.

As we all know blizzard stacks.As far as i know you can stack 3blizz at one time (with 65 or 105fcr at least).

In my case this mean about 16k dmg.

In the time it takes me to cast one blizz i can cast 5-6 ice blasts.In other words ice blast is better than blizz as long as there is only one blizzard and the same if there are 2 stacked blizzards.

Why is this important? Several reason:

1) For monsters that don;t have huge hps.Random bosses,etc (not andariel,meph,baal etc) you only need about 2-3blizz hits to kill them.In this case it is faster to just use Ice blast.This might also be true for niktalah or summoner,but i haven't tried it yet.

As for GS vs Ice Blast. GS is used for crowd control in between 2 blizz so the mobs are frozen,while ice blast is more of a dmg dealer.

I am stick trying out Ice blast to see it actual efectiveness.


P.S. Once you go Insight,you can't go back(i can tele without mana pots )

hmm i wonder why you chose to go with full tal's set route.
I think the equipment you had before was more suitable for mfing.
I have a similar blizz sorc with following gear:
shako PT
tal's armor PT
tal's ammy
spirit (rhyme on switch)
occy (alibaba on switch)
tal's belt
nagel 29, 30
wartrav
chancy
torch anni
she's lvl 90 and does 5k dmg with primary and 3.8k with secondary

If i switch to your setup i lose about 200mf (shako, alibaba, rhyme, chancy)
think my sorc kills everything (andy, meph, ancient tunnel, chaos - yes i run chaos with this sorc...) pretty well.
let me know if the extra dmg and fcr is worth it in your opinion

ps my merc has andy, eth duriell, eth great polearm insight

First of all you only use ali baba/chancy on switch when killing andy/meph etc. This can still be done to the same effect,just that it will be faster to get the monster to a tenth of his life and after that you can kill him WITH THE SAME MF.

As for the loss in mf from occy/shako it is worth due to 3 reasons:


1) Mf isn't that important when the difference is between 350 and 450.

2) You will be dealing a more dmg (about 10%more from Blizz dmg,another 5-10% from -res and another 7-8% from fcr.)Although i am not sure of these values,i am quite sure that the actual amount of dmg is increased by about 15-25%.

3) You will have a lot better resists.This is one of those things that should first be tried.

I recomend that you get your hands on a tal orb/helm/magefist(they are dirt cheap) and a 35spirit (or 10fcr ring in case you don't have a 35spirit)and try the build for yourself.I was a sceptic at first,but i was convinced.


As for the merc.I suppose that your weapon has around 700+ max dmg.In that case it is really good. As for gaze vs andy it is a matter of preferance. I preffer gaze because with andy my merc would have a lousy fire res (36)

Prob a bit late too now but..

If you're having troubles with merc str, I would socket the gaze with a perfect amethyst. I know its a bit cheesy but eventually when the merc has enough str to use it without the gem, you can change it to an IAS jewel or anything else.

To match up Andy's vs Gaze...hard decision:

Gaze has life steal and damage reduced by %

Andy's has huge str, +2 skills (which will help the insight + his own aura), life leech, IAS and probably should have a Ral in there (or a IAS + fire res jewel), poison res.

Already both have LL but Andy;s has a tiny bit more.
Looking at its advantages I would probably venture out for an Andy's.
