Tactics in Hell

Tactics in Hell

OK, I currently have a few characters in Hell, but haven't gotten one past Act II, yet. The main one I'm working on at the moment is a Hammerdin, and I'm getting owned by undead archers. I have decent gear for both myself and my merc. I do about 5K damage with my hammers. I'm maxed for resists on fire and lightening. Cold is at 74, and I think poison is at 40. My shield isn't the greatest, so I'm only about 65% blocking when Holy Shield is activated. I have about 1K life as well. I'm using a HF merc outfitted with an AMNAMNSHAEL Hone Sundan, Duriels Shell, and Tal Rashas mask.

I'm just curious what tactics people use to deal with ranged attackers in Hell. Holy Freeze isn't slowing them down enough, and that's really all the crowd control I have. I, also, can't seem to draw them out in groups. They usually seem quite content to sit there and let me come to them. :grrr: I'm considering changing out my shield so I definitely get to 75% blocking, but I'm not sure how much of a difference that is going to make since I'm not that far off as it is.

Anyway, just curious to see what sort of tactics there might be that I'm missing. Thanks!

well when running you have 0 def and only like 33% your standard blocking rate. those archers are never fun but dodging the missiles you can and then walking the rest of the way may be your best shot. once you get close they will die quickly

What kind of damage type from those archers hurts you the most? If it's physical arrows, maybe consider boosting your physical damage resistance via your equipment? Rockstopper, Shaftstop, String of ears, Stormshield all have PDR bonuses, i think.

If it's elemental, then maybe in addition to resist you'll need to find absorb of the right type. Rising Sun/Dwarf star gives fire absorb, ravenfrost gives cold absorb, thundergod's vigor gives lightning absorb. There's probably others too that i don't know about.

The problem is that paladins don't seem to have many crowd-control skills. So i think you'll have to rely on equipment to help out. Hope this helps a bit.

PDR is not a bad idea. I loaded up on gear to try and get my resistances maxed which helped me out in Act I. I might play with my gear setup some more. I actually switched away from a Dwarf Star to try and max my fire resistance since it didn't appear the DS was helping me. I didn't think much of using PDR gear since I've been trying to max my resists and +skills.
