Symphony music that goes well with war

my friend wants me to download some symphony music that would go well with a war video(think saving private ryan, band of brother ect). I'm just downloading random stuff but if anyone knows any good symphony songs that might go well with war, tell me. Even if you don't think it will tell me anyway because i have no good knowledge of this type of music.

    symphony music+war=yay for me

A little over-used but "Mars Bringer of War" I think Mulguller might be able to help here.

Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain is about the struggle between good and evil and has a good amount of evil sounding stuff fighting the lighter good guy music. Depending on the ebb and flow of your battle scenes it might work.

That or perhap Carmina Burana (sp?) for one helluva cool intro.

I'm no classical music expert, I really only know the famous stuff which as others have noted, can be a tad over used.

That's gotten so way overused :(

Anyhow, the music from Medal of Honor is pretty good too. And I hope you are getting Saving Private Ryan stuff too.

Some of the songs from Handel's Messiah would be pretty snazzy, if you synched up the plots of the songs to the scenes you're showing.

if you want to go semi-mainstream you could try Dies Irae

do NOT NOT NOT use Adagio for Strings, its a great song, but be original

you could also try Opera, it works for mob hits

    what else? Beethoven's 9th 2nd mvmt
Dvorak's New World has plenty good throughout
1812 overture is horribly overused, but good

my top pick would be Dies Irae, its fast paced enough to work for this sort of thing, but most versions of it are short

Hmm, I always preferred the soothing tones of Yanni while blowing the virtual brains out of virtual heads. There is some sort of dicotomy there that moves me.

    Meh, maybe I'm just psychotic.

Back on topic. Another extremely overused but appropriate piece is ye auld Flight of the Valkyries .

lots of good Wagner if you are willing to go opera

I'm trying to think of something warlike from Mendelssohn, but its so tranquil

Nooo, I wanted to be the first to mention Wagner. Yes it is overused, bordering on cliche, but IMO that doesn't detract from it one bit.

Die Fledermaus is good if you want something jaunty, and since I must beat Gaile to it, I have to mention
    RALPH VAUGHN WILLIAMS

    ha, take that Gaile... pwn'd
