Sword for PvM Barb

Sword for PvM Barb

I'm at a loss as to what to use for a PvM sword barb. Build is standard Whirlwind.

Is Bul Kathos Sacred Charge better, or a Cresent Moon? The former has high Crushing Blow, whereas the latter has ITD. Both can reach the final breakpoint, so that doesn't seem a problem.

Also, both Legend Swords and Phase Blades are feasibly to stick Cresent Moon into, since they can have three sockets and either would reach the last breakpoint. For a Barb, I'm assuming Legend Sword is better? The stats seem to indicate this, but the reason I ask is because people seem to stick Cresent Moon into Phase Blades more often, not Legend Swords. Is this because the speed difference is useful for other classes (but would make little difference to a Whirlwind Barb)?

Thanks.

don't bother with crescent moon on a whirl barb, the %chance to cast static on striking doesn't work while whirling, and that's the best part about that runeword tbh.

if i were you i'd try to get hold of a grandfather... it might not hit the last breakpoint but it'll perform better damage wise and has other nice mods. i'm also assuming here that you can't afford a botd for this, but another nice weapon runeword is kingslayer in a champion sword (this hits the last whirl breakpoint and has crushing blow, which if you use in conjunction with other crushing blow stuff like duress, gores, guillaumes will kill efficiently)

hope that helped.

Oh, I can afford a BotD (take most all of my funds, but I could get it if I absolutely needed to). But I'm building a PvM barb, mainly, and it just seems like such a waste to need a BotD for a PvM build.

I'm not so interested in Grandfather either. I just came off from building a Titan barb, and was fairly disappointed at the result, which is why I turned to a possibly Bul Kathos Sacred Charge wielding barb in the first place. I figure the Crushing Blow would do decently compared to a Titan's variation in 8 player Hell. I guess Cresent Moon is more a weapon a Zealot would use, not a Barb, I just asked because it seems like a fairly popular Runeword lately.

Kingslayer seems like a great weapon. But if I were to bother making that, I might as well just shell out the bit extra for BotD, which is why I didn't consider it before.

Eh, maybe I'll go make a lance barb. Hone Sundan + Guillaime's Face + Goblin Toe can all be gotten for so cheap, it's silly, and I want to see how effective is 100% Crushing Blow :xsmile4:

it's not as effective as everyone says. iirc, it takes about 8 hits to kill each monster in hell, after damage reduction and such.
against bosses is really cool though.

Eh, people will say what they'll say. Regardless of whether it's true or not. I'll just try it on my own. It's not like I expect it to be the be-all, end-all for killing monsters, it just sounds like it'd be fun to do.

You can also consider 'Kingslayer'. Relatively cheap runes and some decent mods for a barb:

+30% Increased Attack Speed
+230-270% Enhanced Damage (varies)
-25% Target Defense
20% Bonus To Attack Rating
33% Chance of Crushing Blow
50% Chance of Open Wounds
+1 To Vengeance
Prevent Monster Heal
+10 To Strength
40% Extra Gold From Monsters

he already considered kingslayer highland,i'd say he should reconsider it.It is a very good weapon for the cb it packs, the advantage with swords is he can use em two handed for more damage & put on shields in dangerous areas.

if not get a fury balrog, lots of old furys around if you play nl.Does decent damage packs itd(sureshot hits on normal monsters) & deadly,so the damage is bigger then what you'd expect.

& yes crushing blow is effective,it is not meant for killing no..you cant kill by cb alone,it makes killing faster, removing a percentage of remaining life on which your actual damage is applied.Pretty neat.

I like Lightsabres, but then again, I play hardcore. Having all of that mana leech, ITD, and Lightning Absorb lets me choose other gear elsewhere that may help out more.

It's kind of like the WWS vs. WF argument with bows... WF does more damage outright, but WWS comes close enough so that the fact that you don't have to add as much IAS or Stats can make it even out in other categories.

The build is ww,any extra ias than what is required to hit lwbp isnt helping you,the dmg of ls & azure isnt enough for endgame with ww,those are frenzy weapons.
