Switching items between chars

Is this possible? I got this really sweet unique mace with my amazon today, and it would be awesome on my paladin.

If this is single player. there is a program called ATMA (see here) which allows transferring stuff between characters and even storing all your finds away from your stash or inventory - and the best item drop calculator I know.

If you are playing on battlenet, you have to create a game (with a password !!) and wait 5 minutes. After that time it will persist for up to 5 minutes without anybody being in, so you can drop stuff and enter it with another character. There are a few things to consider:

1. Sometimes games crash. If that happens after you left the game with the character who dropped the stuff, your items will be gone.

2. Before dropping stuff, leave the game, wait 3 seconds and enter again. Sometimes you will have a typo in the usual name of the game respectively its password. In that case, the game will be deleted after 5 minutes with your items being gone if that happens with expensive stuff lying on the ground.

The best way is to have a 100% trustful friend or you have two instances of the game. You need two sets of keys and either WinXP with 2 (Windows) user accounts plus Diablo installed separately for each one or two computers for that. In that case you can pass stuff via the trade window which is considered safe, even when a game crashes.

Thanks :) However, it needs a little editing and I also expanded it a little. If it gets stickied or put into a FAQ file, better use the following version. It still doesn't cover topics like muling a freshly found Gheed's Fortune or Annihilus which can be a little more complicated.

Transferring items to other characters (called "muling") in single player:

There is a program called ATMA (see here) which allows transferring stuff between characters and even storing all your finds away from your stash or inventory - and the best item drop calculator I know.

Muling on Battlenet:

Create a game (with a password !!) and wait until it's 5 minutes old. After that time it will persist for up to 5 minutes without anybody being in, so you can drop stuff and enter it with another character. There are a few things to consider:

Sometimes games crash. If that happens after you left the game with the character who dropped the stuff, your items will be gone.

Before dropping stuff, leave the game, wait 3 seconds and enter again. Sometimes you will have a typo in the usual name of the game respectively its password. In that case, the game will be deleted after 5 minutes with your items being gone if that happens after you dropped the items for muling. That's a particularly cruel kind of muling accident - time is running out while you are desperately trying to guess what the error might be...

When muling a small number of items or in case of emergency, you can create a game, drop the items and log out and enter the game with the other character as quickly as possible. Any game will persist for at least one minute after its creation, so if there are no delays, it should work. However, you might still have a typo in the game's name or password or you might encounter a temporary problem, so you better do that with not that valuable items only.

You should do that for any expensive item !

Thanks for the question and the reply. I've been playing diabloii for years, but not on the net, and safely muling was driving me crazy.

P.S. Morphic. I found a great amazon bow Magewrath today, legit, swap for a mid level (15-20) rune?
