Survivor

So, the new season of Survivor starts tonight. They are starting off by using racial groups. Caucasian, African American, etc. I'm pretty sure that this is just being done to draw attention to a show thats already past its prime. Anyway, Im pretty much just writing this so I don't forget to record it for my mom. But to make it worthy of a thread, is anybody even going to watch it? Has anyone even bothered watching it anymore, it just seems the same thing over and over again.

I don't think I've ever actually watched a full hour's worth of Survivor. It's so boring and mellow-dramatic.

That show needs to forget about challenges, immunities, alliances, and votes.

Just drop the contestants off in the middle of the Gobi desert. The ones still alive after 40 days wins the money.

Alternate locations could be: Amazon jungle, African wilderness, Antartica, and Iraq.

Has'nt that crap been around for some 10 years now?
I think its around the 10th season. But they have 2 seasons per year. So, this is probably the 5th or 6th year.

never watched it, and I heard that alot of sponsors dropped out due to the racial theme

all I really know about though is the Conan O'Brien race battle of the bands

and what happens when someone wins? will they be disqualified if a study of their genealogy reveals mixed race heritage? how is this not a horrible idea??

I watched the first one, it was mostly crappy but sort of watchable. Now it's been going for about a million years and is SO INCREDIBLY OVER.

As for this race thing, I find it amusing. They often split the contestants up by gender and no-one ever complains, but split them up by race and OMG IT'S TEH RACIST!!!11

That said, they're crazy.

P.S. Did anyone else see this when it was on? Wait for it, and check out the expression on the host's face. For those who don't know, it's Richard Hatch - the winner of the first Survivor - on the Australian Who Wants to Be A Millionaire. He's in jail now for tax evasion as I recall...

Everyone on the show was saying he was such a devious manipulator. Which I think is really a comment on how stupid those contestants are.

Is that an intentional pun?

Maybe he was just bad at math, and filled up his tax forms wrong.

Or maybe that's what he wants people to think...

Actually, I've just bought the original Battlestar Galactica on DVD and I'm loving it.

I still watch it and still like it.
It's something like the 14th season.
The racial thing won't be a big deal, if it's like last year they'll be in 2 random tribes within 2 weeks. I don't see why anyone is upset about it anyway, any negativity shown will the individual's fault.

I consider that and other terms to be dangerously divisive. African-American, Italian-American, Irish-American, Chinese-American etc are all terms that have no other purpose other than to highlight ethnic difference and keep alive entrenched racism. Either you are all American or you're not.

If a white person can trace their family tree back to ownership of a cotton plantation in the early 19th century, what makes them more American than a black person that can trace their ancestry back to the exact same plantation in the same time period?

Do black people in America ever go around calling white guys "Anglo-Americans" or "German-Americans" (Teuto-Americans maybe?)?

I tell you, we need new names.

I know, let's use Star Trek names!

We'll call blacks Klingons, cuz they're both kinda dark. We'll call whites Borgs, because they're both white, and have that assimilation thing going on (at least for Americans). The Asians could be Romulan or Cardassians, whichever. Who wants to be Ferengi?

I believe it's actually the black Americans who promote the "African-American" nonsense.

Here in the RGV (90ish% "Hispanic"), I've lately seen a lot of the Mexicans here wearing T-shirts that read:

Not Latino
Not Hispanic
Not Spanish

I'M 100% MEXICANO!

I salute them for bucking the stupid system.

Or is it the African American advocacy groups? Advocacy groups tend to be populated by well-off white people with a lot of middle-class guilt...
