Surviving TPPK longterm

Hey, I'm kinda new, been playing Diablo2 for years, but just recently got on bnet and learned of the dreaded tppk. I've lost a good dozen characters to it and my most recent BBwolfy, as survived for one reason only, 1370 life at level 30. I had 4 tppk attempts on me today alone, and after one attempt I was down to 1 life. Is there any kind of secret to surviving these or making them not work against you, or are they a reportable offense to bnet?

Thanx in advance

It's rampant. The secret: make friends, play in private games!

You can report all you'd like; proving it is one thing, getting battle.net staff to care, another. : (

Best advice on reaching level 9 is to never play with necros, sorcs, druids, amazons, paladins,...... assassins and....... erm barbarians.

YEs there unfortunately is very little to do about it, except for making a real tank char that can take the nasty blows. barbs and palas and assassins are less common to be tppkers though. Its still possible, but most people dont bother doing them, they just go the easy route and make an ice blaster, bone nec, bow ama or a wind druid.

While we are on it, I'm curious to know just who can tppk?

So far I know of
Amazon - Bower
Druid - Windy
Sorc - Ice Blast
Necro - Bone Spirit

But I can't think of how a Paladin, Barb, or Assassin could do it. Maybe double throw or something like fire blast, but I don't see them doing as much damage as something with -200 res, irresistible damage, unblockable damage, or 95% chance to hit.

Yes, anyone can make a hot tp, or hostile and teleport to you, but its not insta kill mode. So I am just wondering who else could do it? Not that I would ever venture into the rotting cesspool that in HC pub games, but even in some private games, if a friend brings in a stranger, I still get a bit paranoid.

But yeah, its friends, or painfully slow leveling.

To add to AgentMarth's list... Paladins can do it with hammers.

As stated before, friends or painfully slow leveling is the only real way to avoid it, but here are some somewhat effective methods I have used to lower the risk:
1) Level Restrictions! I like to pace my character levels with the act they are in, so it's easy to know when someone doesn't belong.
Act1 lvl 1-10
Act2 lvl 10-20
Act3 lvl 20-23
Act4 lvl 23-25
Act5 lvl 25-40
NM1 lvl 40-43
NM2 lvl 43-50
NM3 lvl 50-53
NM4 lvl 53-55
NM5 lvl 55-65
Of course this begins to blur up top, but when you've got a level 40 Sorc named something like "Nos-Fire" volunteering to help you kill meph in normal, it's a no brainer you should have restricted this person from your game.
2) Avoid "Nos" characters or people with questionable charcter names (like KillYou, Shocker, and names that include the level they are like FortyNine or SixtySeven). It's pretty well established Nos is a PK clan. Never party anyone with a "Nos-" character name, and ridicule them for being such a chump as to even think they deserve a pp.
3) If you are doing a quest with others you are comfortable trusting in a public game, and someone fishy enters just be a dick and don't party even if they ask. If you're surviving just fine, then why add someone to the party? It may seem rude but if you need to just explain that you like to play it safe and they seem questionable because of their level, class, name, etc.
4) Close your TPs! If you leave TP's open, people know where you are. Sometimes it's impossible to hide where you are (example if the game name is Kill Diablo and there's no red portal in Act4, they pretty much know youre in River or Chaos)
5)Avoid "Run" games. It's clear Blizzard didn't make Diablo so that we would do Trist Runs, Meph Runs, and Baal Runs all day to gain exp as fast as possible. These games fill up fast with players that often invite people before they think about what they are doing, and someone elses mistake can get you killed in a game where they have only been playing with you for 30 seconds to a minute.

The reality of it is that there are people in this world who don't feel good enough just playing the game so they feel the need to ruin it for other people. These people were not hugged enough as children, and I think that needs to be pointed out.

Make a wolfbarb , those get huge huge life :)

I find most tppk's to be cold sorcies (ice bolt) at least in norm baals
before the run starts pop 5-6 thawing pots to raise your cold res to its max :)

and screw trying to kill stuff, just leach. use gear to max your res and life. even if it means less killing power. use that 3/4 Psaphired shield, Hawscale armor, keep your salvation aura or cold res aura on .

Windies are the other pk I often see, make sure you use some dr
and dont stand in his nado path. These are easy to pre-dodge.

The other day in hell I was running with my 89 pally
A tppk windy camped a wp that the party was going to need for a further quest, he Did 4600 damage to my pally in one tppk round. Keep that in mind for life (I had bo and my hoto's sage out for 6.3k life and lived)

Here are some strategies that I work with:

If you're joining a large game just to level, join a game that's doing something unrelated to your area. Baal runs as you run Andy repeatedly, Any game that involves anything with "A2" for most of what you do. Stay away from everyone.

Don't join any parties. They won't know where you are.

If you need to go through a WP, immediately put as much distance between you and it as you can.

If you see someone appear on your screen, immediately Save and Exit.

If someone leaves the party, immediately go to town and/or save and exit.

Sure, it's a paranoid way to play, and kind of anti-social, but that's fixable by making friends, ain't it?

Any char can TPPK, if you want proof just PM me...

Pally, barb, sin can all TPPk.

By tppk I mean instant death.

Dial_up_dave used to average 20 kills a day with his sin.

If you want 100% safety you can baal alone with 7 loaders sitting in town until 99, beleive it or not someone did it and he was a barb lol

All the skills that can tppk:

Sorc: Ice Blast, Blizzard, Orb, Lightning, Charged Bolt, Fire Bolt

Druid: Tornado, Fissure, Molten Boulder

Amazon: Guided Arrow, Multiple Shot, Charged Strike (the bolts when you hit a monster can do insane damage, around 15k each), Lightning Bolt

Necromancer: Bone Spirit, Bone Spear, Poison Nova, Corpse Explosion

Assassin: Shock Web (does little damage, used for killing low levels), Blade Fury, (*note: Fire Blast does not work), Lightning Sentry (a friend tested this, if the pker has all 5 traps in 1 spot, and they are firing through a monster or boss and at the target, they can hostile and do damage/kill)

Barbarian: Double Throw (can do quite alot of damage, upwards of 30k per throw)

Paladin: Holy Shock (can do around 25k damage, combined with a throwing axe or bow, plus facets/griffons, pretty gg), Guided Arrow (with all damage gear, Pride merc, can reach 7k guided), Fist of the Heavens (can reach 11k damage, usually used to kill sorceresses, or in baal runs if someone is convic'd, lower res'd, mainly used on low levels, can't kill druids with cyclone/shapeshift)

As you can see any character can pk. Also, any character with a bow/java can pk in chant games. And you can glitch your javelin on so the target can't see you throwing anything, then boom, dead. Works with double throw too.

Any class can with that bow that gives +guided arrow.

If you like attempts on your life every other game then keep playing expac, or you can go into hiding with the select few in private games (eventually you'll die anyway because "friends" will sneak in and suddenly KO 1 or more of your secret group during a baal run).

Classic is the way to go, hardcore europe has a steady community (east has one too, just slightly smaller, west+asia is like 6 people +loaders). It's far more challenging, all the real D2 players are slowly going there (the HCCL community is the only one growing on bnet, and the only one without the "punch me I'm a tool" majority that infests expac).

as far as avoiding it goes, i personally also go the "antisocial" route. Why bother entertaining the tppking losers? Even if they dont kill you, they still are mocking you and making fun of you. Its like with mosquitoes in real life. They might not kill you, but they still are annoying as hell. Better to just leave the little tppk kids to themselves.

What's so special about d2c HC? Is TPPKing impossible? If it's equally possible, it's only a matter of time before it gets infested as well.

It only raises your cold resist by 50%, which, unless you've got massively stacked cold resist, hardly puts a dent in any decent Cold Mastery.

Au contraire! I have the BEST time messing with tppkers. A little social engineering and they'll get all angst-ridden and angry. Be all like: "yo 1 sec, lemme finish tristram then I get my pvp equipment ok ok? keke ^_^"... 2 minutes later, they go "YO R U DODGING ? DODGE MORE DODGE" and you be all "OK ! I'm in the BLOOD MOOR right now, I gots my pvp equipment! Come!"

At which point, gangsta-homie-g goes: "Yo WTF come PVP ok? Legit!!!"

And you retort with: "Fine fine, Crystalline, crystalline. Come!!! I'm at WP Waiting for youuuuuuu <3 hunny bunny! <3"

...best waste of time.
