Summoners

Hi Guys,

I've seen builds for hybrid summoners, and they all look pretty decent. I'm curious why golem seems to play a small role in these builds, as does skeletal mage. Are these skills simply not as effective as raise skeleton? Or...? To me balancing RS and SM seems more appropriate, but then again I dont know anything. As always, feedback is appreciated,

Invarius.

I think the idea of putting some into mages it gives a bost to Skellys, And as your a hybrid SM + RS is all you really need. Golems are handy because there good meat shields. It has its uses. I have a poisoner/summoner and poison doesn't kill straight away when i first got into hell. Golem was able to take the hits while poison gave me the bodies to summon. And you will find you only need the one point in CG,GM,SR,SM because the +skills is enough to give you what you need without investing anymore skills into these areas.

Well, you can only have one golem; that's why they are nice for support (especially clay golem, which is also the only golem I use), but they are not a central element of a build.

Mages only make sense for "pure" Skelemancers: fire and lightning damage isn't that bad, they provide chill (cold mages) and insane poison duration (poison mages); however, they don't profit from Might and usually monsters are amped --- which gives -100% resistance, whereas Lower Resist is more like -50%. They are also more fragile --- I tend to loose a mage or two in furballs

So, all in all, the warriors are much more effective. And hybrids need to carefully lay out their skillpoints.

Welcome Newcomer to The Darkness. Grab a brew :drink: and feel free to raise some corpses.

Balancing RS and SM is not necessary. The Skellies benefit more from straight points into RS than they do from points in SM. If you were to divide 30 points over SM and RS, you would find that the 20/10 RS/SM distribution gave you much more and stronger Skellies than any other distribution.

Hey Mantis, I believe that his question about balancing RS and SM was referring to Raise Skeleton and Skeletal Mage (not Skeleton mastery). His original post was asking why mages were under emphasized and I think he was asking why you don't balance warriors and mages for your minions.

To answer the question, warriors are much tougher, they live longer, can take more hits and do more damage. Also, warriors get a substantial bonus when you use Amplify Damage to lower phys resist on monsters. Mages do not get a bonus when using Amp, they get a bonus when you use Lower Resist. Since warriors are stronger and Amp is an automatic -100%, it is more efficient to use Amp + warriors than mages. But getting 1 point (and 1 point in Revive if you can afford it) is worthwhile just in case you think a bigger army would help you out.

Yeah, that might be the case. Thanks for clarifying.

Mages can still be worth the trouble, just not for most hybrids.
