    Suicidal characters

Let's contemplate the following ideas. The purpose of each of these characters is to throw themselves in the middle of battle with their suicidal mercenaries, and hope to dear lord that they're facing melee characters. These ideas are just for fun more than for anything else....

    Paladin:
    20 pts in thorns aura

    Druid:
20 pts in Spirit of barbs

    Necromancer:
    20 pts in Iron maiden

All stat points for all of these characters would go into vitality

All gear for these characters would be low defense gear that have sockets filled with perfect rubies for vitality.

Each character would have a suicidal prayer mercenary, with gear loaded with facets that go off when the character dies. (I hope that applies to mercs)

The idea? Melee characters would deal massive amounts of damage to these guys...these guys can take it with massive amounts of life. And they pay all that damage back with the respective thorns esque methods. Not particularily useful for single player pvm, but perhaps in a party or as an interesting pvp....The druid could expand on the idea by putting 20 pts into dire wolves, 20 pts into spirit wolves, 20 points into lycanthropy, and 20 pts into werewolf. That would give him more life, no defense bonus, and minions that could do the same thing as the druid himself. Same idea with Necromancer and summons, perhaps.

Ohh, you are talking about the "Glutton for Punishment" variant. I have bad news for you. In late-Nightmare/Hell monsters will simply have so many more hit points in relation to the damage done by their attacks that "thorny" builds have lost viability.

That is why we don't see many Iron Golemancers and Missionaries (Thorns/Conversion) around anymore.

STOP SAYING SOB!!!. As for the build it looks very interesting  . Can anyone clarify if die facets with mercs work? Other than that it'd be fun to play for awhile, aside from rezzing your merc all the time.

p.s. sorry guys couldn't help myself with the sob thing.

Yes, the die spells on facets do work with mercs.

It's a cool idea, but you'll get tired of these mercs after about 10 minutes of playing them. I mean, would you really want to run back to town, res your merc, and back to the area you were playing in every time you encounter a pack of monsters? Not to mention the amount of gold you would use up in a short amount of time if your merc is of a high level.

    i had a suicide act 2 merc

he was from nm (level 49 or something. i think that's min level for facets).
i didn't level him on purpose so he'd die easily

with 3 sock death mask, 4-socket duskshroud, and 6-socket yari all filled with crappy (3/3, 3/4) random die facets.

he'd die pretty quickly and explode with random spell.
it looked pretty neat but didn't kill much in hell. He was pretty good in NM though.
He wasn't too expensive to revive either.

I tried the paladin build. Got to late nightmare with a teensy bit of tweaking! ( Went onto hell, and couldn't get past the moors. X_x You simply die or can't do enough damage as stated. )

But, if you get a obscene amount of lifeleech, ( I think I had about 28% at one point. Rings + Amu + Weapon + Helm ) and a big enough single-handed weapon, it CAN work. You can then socket a shield with Pskulls, that's 20 damage returned per. So socket a pally shield with 3, and that's 60 damage right away.

A alternative is a larger two-handed weapon, ( 8-space staffs, and the 8-space blades, names escaping me right now ) and socket it with runes/pskulls for lifeleech as well, and you can last a scary amount of time. ( Ever seen a 4-socket warstaff with Amn's? )

The issue you have to deal with, is doing enough damage to stay standing, long enough to kill something. So you have to consider attack rating as well. If going for true suicide, sacrifice. Or otherwise, pick Zeal.

I didn't use anything from Charsi's bargain bin.
