Stupid Website

I was looking around on Battle.net, then I saw one of the spam bot's messages, saying to go to this site for this Mephy bot.

Curious, I went just to see how it was laid out (the website)(now, I know I'll be flamed for trying to be a hacker, but that's not true). Instead, what happens is that the "Can't connect to website" message comes up, but there is a title on the bar of the window... which I figure to be quite queer. Then, afterwards, whenever I tried to download something off the internet, a file called Bnet log or something like that was created every time I tried. Then, it deleted my Windows Media Player, and took away about 170 megabytes of hard drive. Then some stupid program called D2-Hack was running on my computer, and I couldn't detect where it was running from/originated.

So, I system restored to 3 days later (not sure if it worked entirely), reinstalled Windows Media Player (which I think fixed everything)... and I regained those 170 megs, and also, D2-Hack was not running on the computer, and I could download stuff off the internet now. Maybe there's more to it, but I'm not sure, as it was at like 1AM.

Advice to all: Don't even go to hacking websites. It's not worth the hassle of trying to remove the stupid hack that automatically downloads itself to your computer. Sometimes, I wanna kick the balls of the person who created D2-Hack, and any other kind of hack (including Map Hack)

Thanks

Yes, those websites dont just download hacks to your ocmputer....they download loggers, which can access give them your acct/password.

So dont even go test those sites out unless you are on a public computer or somewhere you dont play diablo at.

You might wanna clean off your comp completly before you try to log back onto bnet....hope your accnt is still there.

format your machine and reinstalled OS since you cant find the traces of the program. it might just resides in your registry.

reside in registry means its just there, or its there and still active?

iono, im a bit paranoid, i mean... i already gave my d2 items for friends to hold onto, so I really have nothign to lose (my other accounts are auto-logins, so it shouldnt be a problem)

i would rather not reformat, but, i guess im an idiot like that

if it's a keylogger like someone on top mentioned, it will log the keys u press (account name and password) whether it's to d2 or other websites/ bank account login... u wouldnt know when the fellow got it sent back to him. If your account is safe now, doesnt mean it will be safe next week. Best is to reformat, or to remove all files/registry records that u find suspicious or those u know your programs arent using, provided u know how to do it...

mm... im only 16, so, i dont really do risky stuff online (like ebay, banks, etc)

so its not that bad for me, i guess... as long as they dont kill my computer, im fine... but hey, thanks for the help man

also, wouldnt know which files/registry records to remove.. .lol

edit

oh.. i found a file called d2I_install, in my temp file.. which was also when my computer got that stupid thing... is this the file? it seems like it... and there were other files made at the time near when i got d2I_install also...

bit unusual
