Stupid question, but why does jewel color matter?

Does the jewel color change the color of a white/gray item when you socket it? Uniques?

Reasong I ask is some trades, they will ask for the color...

People just want every item on their chars to be aesthetic. I, for one, wouldn't pay much for a yellow, peach, or pink jewel, but more for a green jewel, and around in the middle for a red or blue jewel.

I understand. So it only matters when you hover your mouse over the item & visualize the jewel, not the look of the char in the game.
