In related news, Jehova's Witnesses were spotted handing out flyers door to door, and a Baptist church's marqui read "Seven days without prayer makes one weak."

If they were honestly going for it, I think they'd pick someone charismatic in a false Samaritan's cloak of benevolence - you know, like modern Mohammad - instead of pretentious **** who's only going to incite anyone set on her faith to dislike them.

EDT: Pat is right. Islam at the core is a faith that has within it's tenets the spread of itself - a kind of like meme, if you think about it. There's nothing particularly Al-Qaeda in this attempt of conversion but it being repugnant.

They tend to use the sword instead of charisma.

Yep, the witnesses who screamed that our souls were going to burn in hell for eternity unless we accepted Christ as our personal saviour always did it for me ...

I especially like the European way of old in one particular sense. Moslems have a track record of going "I beat you, now you may choose our religion or die" (we Christians have often, though not always, been granted the clementia of avoiding the choice). We, on the other hand, liked to give the same choice, and then kill them anyway.

I bet the old Emperor was real happy to be strangled in stead of being burnt on stake.

That's just what I said they've been keen on doing.

Please explain how "convert and die or die" is better than this.

Then again, as I've stated before, they're just making demands they know to be impossible to meet so they can use it as grounds for more terrorist attacks. If you put your mind about it and thought it for a while in stead of yelling about blowing Iran to pieces you might actually get this.

Thnking and words aren't going to work here. Only by stopping Iran through violent means will

"Here" being OTF, thinking and articulating your thoughts would go a long way here. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

So hmmm... which Holy Book of Absolute Truth should I use to guide my response to this...?

Violent means were tried before...Vietnam (police action my arse) and Iraq come to mind as far as volitile situations that were incorrectly (and downright rashly) handled.

You seem to be missing ECI's point. He will agree with you that the cases you mentioned were incorrectly handled. He will also postulate that too little violence was used on those instances.

Not that there's all that much to miss, though.

I don't recall anyone saying Al Qaeda doesn't want everyone to convert to Islam.

But when I saw this on TV I figured I'd see a thread on it.

Al Qaeda is holed up in Iran now, is it?

Marquee. Not to be confused with Marquis, the title. But  for the post.

You have to be pretty ignorant to assume that the Islamic terrorists actually want any Americans to convert to their faith.
What if Bin Laden converted to Christianity (Or Americanism, conservitism, whichever religion you perfer) and asked for asylum? We'd ask him where he is so we could pick him up, and send some 500lb bombs to meet him.

    They'd do the same.

Damn, I even googled Marquee, Marqui, and Marquis, and all of them had a lot of links, so I went with the short one.

I think that's the first time you've ever corrected me.

Oh, well. At least you make the effort. I guess the moral is never trust Google.

(That even happened to me once, so don't feel too bad.)

    I tried to be gentle.

Ew. Even I regret that one.
