    State of battle.net?

Hi, I'm a guy who used to play a lot of D2 but I stopped for the last couple years and now I'm looking to get back into it... so naturally I've lost touch with the community, and I'm wondering how it's going right now. Sort of a "state of the union" for bnet. How is the online economy? Are there a lot of duped and/or hacked items that make trading a worthless endeavor? Are there a lot of cheats? I've heard the name "pindlebot" tossed around, and something about maphacks, but I'm not sure how bad they are or to what extent they are present in the community. Any insight would be appreciated... I just want to know if it's worth getting back into the game :)

Well I'm slowly phasing Diablo 2 in my life. All in all, IMO, I believe there are better things to be doing, but if you really want to play games and have no other choice but Diablo 2, then go ahead.

Frankly, as of right now, there's Sacred (Diablo- type game) - not sure how good the multiplayer this is, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow - superb game even as single player but now comes with multiplayer; but I'm not sure how that is yet, and Unreal Tournament 2004: excellent choice.

If none of those floats your boat, I hear Lineage 2 is coming out in a month or so, but it's a MMPORG so no freebie online playing on their official servers. Halflife 2 is coming out someday... (Note CS:Condition Zero - if you're really interested in trying those single player lvls but not advised)

As for battle.net, laggy somewhat. You probably missed double digits of duping sprees, including a rune one, which made tons of high lvl runes which poof on contact with Bnet's dupe detection.

Lag is still there, mainly due to some Diablo clone bots searching for a specific server IP to create a game on. I'd suggest you read up on Diablo Clone on this site. Greed is still there, so is childish pranks, name calling, and scams.

The newest additon to the annoying things are those lvl 1 spam bots that join public games and spam their advertisement before leaving to join another game. You can't squelch them because they go offline after they leave the game. And they sometimes come in droves, with multiple bots spamming the same message. You can just ignore them mentally or make lvl req game, but you're probably too lazy or forget about the lvl req. or you just joined another person's public game who fell under those 2 things.

Pindle bots, Meph bots, etc. still running around which are macro programs that make games, walk up to a certain area, use certain skills a certain amount of times, checks if anything good dropped; if so pick it up. Rinse, repeat, and wash.

In conclusion, stronger and faster enemies, new ways to fight and make characters, but same old Battle.net.

    State of the .net Address

Schwhat did a pretty good job of summing it up, but since you bumped it I'm going to assume you're still looking for more. So here we go.

It's different but the same. With the advent of patch 1.10, the following things have happened.

    - Syngeries for skills (points in one skill increase damage in another) have tended to force people into greater specialization than before. However, it is still mostly possible to have, in general, two damage types, which will help you deal with ones immune to your primary. The reason you need synergies is because

    - The monsters are much more difficult. This is mostly noticable in nightmare and definately hell, where if your character is poorly equiped or built, you're likely dead. By more difficult, I mean they're faster, strong and have more hitpoints... other than that they still mindlessly run towards you and attack. Of course, if you play hardcore, you will want to watch out for

    - PKs. They're still around, making use of a few bugs to kill you at the edge of town (dont stand near the edge of town if someone is outside and hostile to you) or bypass the 10 second delay on waypoint use with some fancy clicking. Naturally, if you dont play hardcore, its not just a big issue. Some of these people use

    - Hacks, of course. They're still around... maphack, allowing people to see the entire map and its monsters and giving a very unfair advantage. Also botters still exist. For hardcore there is the chicken hack, which automatically exits before you die, but also branding you a total spineless wuss, for lack of better words. In addition to the hacking there has also been some

    - Duping. The biggest problem was that a ton of runes were duped, and there are now formulas to cube up any level of runes to even higher runes! Once you cube duped runes, they will no longer disappear because a new rune generates a new, unique item ID... get it? So now there is a huge overabundance of very high level runes on the realms. This is a big problem because

    - 1.10 has many new, but extremely, insanely powerful runewords. This shouldnt be an issue, because theoretically there should only ever be a small handful of people running around with these at any time. Instead, now everyone has these ultra-powerful runewords, including the ITHesque Breath Of The Dying (BotD) which far, far too many people have. And speaking of people

    - There are still plenty of jerks roaming battle.net. Little brats who know nothing but the word "n00b" and are drunk off of the power of anonimity that comes with the internet and are just generally annoying. These are the same people who make

    - Trading = hard, unless you do it here on these forums, which I recommend. Trying to trade in the public channels is a waste of time. Its filled with scammers and greedy bastards who wont agree to a deal unless they're getting way more than their stuff is worth, and why would you want to do that? 99% of deals will end with them calling your very reasonable offer NOOBISH and them leaving after having wasted your time.

That pretty much sums up everything thats going on. I pretty much only play with people I've met on this board, dont rush my characters and general enjoy playing the game.

    Good luck.

That's more like what I was looking for, thanks... now if I could just find a way to play with only people from these forums, I guess I'd be all set :cheesy:

Go check the player matchup. Or, if you're hardcore, you can usually put out a call there for players since its a very tight community.

East Hardcore Ladder, you can try me!

I can't add more than what Schwat and Kitriara already wrote. Have fun playing! It is always nice to see older players return.

Oh, but do refrain from bumping your post in the future, please, certainly if it is just a day old.
