Starting D3 with a party in 1 hour - which difficulty level should we pick?

Hi everyone!

The recent good news about Diablo 3 version 2.0 has gotten me and a couple of friends very excited and we are partying up tonight! We are all experienced gamers and couple of us are also diablo veterans, so we are really pleased we don't have to do the normal-nightmare-hell grind to get to the good stuff.

We want the game to be challenging right from the start and to put pressure on our teamwork. However, as I'm kind of the man in charge, I don't want to set the difficulty level too high right from the start - I want to know it's doable!

So I'm asking you: when you start new characters, which difficulty level do you choose? Anything else we should know about? Any tips?

Thanks!!

Well you could go Torment, you will be able to complete this, however! there will be alot of kiting.
Expert or Master would be best for you guys. Try out Master first and see how it is, if you feel that elite packs takes too long, bump it down to Expert :)

Thanks for the answer! I just tried it with Master and it felt amazing! Very nice XP gain & dangerous but manageable combat. By the way, does the global +50% double the XP gain from the difficulty level?

Can anybody tell me where what level we would reach, approximately, after slaying Diablo for the first time, if we played with Expert or Master? Any experiences with this? Reaching lvl 60 would be the optimum, of course.

Master. Torment from level 1 assumes you twink heavily and is tedious if you don't. Expert is kind of easy at first, it might be the highest you have unlocked if you haven't played before.

Expert = level 53 right after Diablo. Master is probably 60 or close (though doing half of A3 will bring you from 53 to near 60, some quick crypt of the ancients runs will also get you what little you missed).

The xp gain from the community bonus and multiplayer and shrines is all multiplicative with difficulty level.

Also do HC, much more teamwork there inherently.

Thanks for the additional tips. Good to know where we land after one playthrough. Just played a bit with my old characters and oh my god how much rares are dropping & how good they are! Game feels completely different..

Won't do hardcore, because one of us is new & unsure. Maybe later.

Re: level. I've been leveling a WD, playing mostly Master, with a little Expert right at the beginning and little Torment 1 whenever I briefly outgear Master after a good drop. I'm at level 55 (closer to 56) and I just killed Belial. No Hellfire ring, no Cain's set, no ruby. I've not done full clears, but I don't rush either, just doing the side dungeons I happen to enjoy.

The early enemies don't really threaten ranged characters so direct him towards any class not named Barbarian or Monk?

Hey just wanted to thank you about your tips & let you know we had a blast!

Expert was indeed the highest difficulty beginners could start the game with so we went with that. I must say it felt perfect, with very good boss/elite fights and overall good flow of the game. We found a couple of legendaries that left my friends hooked into the game (one guy in particular that hadn't played a diablo game since the 90s).

I'm glad we didn't do HC, though. There was one nasty death by an early waller elite that was just brutal for someone who had never played the game before.

So if someone else is thinking between starting new character on normal or hard, like I was, my advice would DEFINITELY be to bump it up to expert, it's worth it even with a new party! It makes the game more meaningful.

I must add this is a whole another game than what I played two months at launch! MUCH BETTER!

The xpac gives you Kulle Aid (yes, really) that knocks down walls. Until then, they remain a source of cheap death.
