Starting a V/T, need a little help..

I am currently building my first paladin on US east non-ladder, to use for pubby dueling and hunting the D Clone (killed him once, and must do it again). I had started a hammerdin, but decided I didnt really want to be "just another hammerdin", and several people have mentioned that the V/T is a very well rounded character and good with hunting the D Clone, so I decided to start one. I have read Pravada's excellent guide ( :thumbsup: to him) but still have a few questions if you would all be so kind as to answer...
1) In what order do you suggest maxing the primary Vindicator skills? I would think Holy Shield, Fanaticism, and then Smite.
2) How does the following look for a standard all around gear set up?
Helmet: Ber'd Harlequin Crest
Armor: Mage Plate Enigma
Belt: Verdungo's Hearty Cord
Gloves: Dracul's Grasp
Boots: Gore Rider
Amu: Mara's Kaleidoscope
Ring: Raven Frost
Ring: Bul-Kathos' Wedding Band
Weapon: Silence Phase Blade
Shield: Ber'd Up'd Herald of Zakarum
3) How much base str would you give to a V/T? I currently am thinking 55 sounds like a good number, as that will allow me to wear my armor, and with the help of the anni I got from my first encounter w/ D-clone (18/10/9) the rest of my gear.
4) What do you guys carry on your weapon switch? Casting gear for FoH? Cta? Charge weapon?
Any other hints or tips for a starting V/T player?
