Make sure you do not try this on any old shield that has sockets.Gaza0469 said:Spirit shield is a new ladder only runeword
It can be made in any 4 socket sword, or shield.
not quite true. iirc all pally-only shields can have 4 sockets.Darnoc said:afaik there are only two shields that you can put "spirit" into- heraldic shields (paladin only) and monarch shields (only nm and hell i think). Gothic shields might be able to have 4 socks, but I do not know for sure. All other shields only have 3 sock max.
A Ward can have 4 sockets as well, and has 185 STR requirement, and the same block % as an Aegis.LorveN said:not quite true. iirc all pally-only shields can have 4 sockets.
there are 2 shields that are not class specific that can have 4 sockets, and those are: Monarch and Aegis

Runewords have nothing to do with the Horadric Cube. Just put the shield somewhere you can put items in the sockets, then put them in order.Andoru said:I've got 3 of the runes now. Once I've got the last one, do I put all 4 plus the 4-socket monarch into the cube or should I do the runes one by one (i.e. Tal then Thul etc)?
As long as the shield is not blue, yellow, or gold (magical, rare, unique). Superior just means it is slightly better than than same shield that does not have the superior prefix, but this does not make it magical. The title color should be grey, which is the color coding for socketed items. You should be fine using that shield for spirit.gorash said:can runes be put into a item that has the word "superior" in it?
i'm not good with runewords and i dont want to screw up while wasting some runes also...

If an item has the right number of sockets AND if it appears in grey letters when thrown on the ground you can make a runeword in that item.

Actually I think those are Magic items.Gaza0469 said:Also items with the "mechanics" or "jewlers" prefix ( found on armor ) cant be made into runewords.
I dont think these are magic.
those items with the mechanics and jewlers (and artisans) prefixes are magic, and their names would end up in blue lettering.Gaza0469 said:Also items with the "mechanics" or "jewlers" prefix ( found on armor ) cant be made into runewords.
