    Sould I upgrade to XP?

Alright, I've always stayed true to Win98, but now software is starting to come out that requires XP!! DAMN YOU MICROSOFT!!!! So what do you think? Will stuff run better and faster if I sell out and upgrade?

If you have a decent system you would be wise to upgrade, but thats just cause Microsoft is a stupid software whoring company. However that story is for another thread. Make sure to get Pro the benifits make up for the cost IMHO.

I honestly see nothing in XP. Its only confusing. I've been using 98 since day one, and it does everything I could ever possibly want it to do. The only thing new about XP is that its a requirement for new software. Its such a crock. It makes my machine do nothing it couldn't do already. Die microsoft.

Most of you are sorta leaning me toward doing it, but what exactly are some of the pro's of it?

Well as you said the new software.
The fact that it is supposidly more secure.
Can interface with others and still play nice.
Is being looked over by Microsoft more than the others so loopholes are more likely to be fixed.
Will overall last longer since the new programs and such will be written for it.

I got fewer crashes in XP over a year of using it than I did over a week of using 98SE. There's no good reason to use 9X over XP.

I too have never had any crashes. It's not more confusing, IMO, it's less confusing. Things are much simplified over 9x.

    Windows 2000 > all.

Well, except UNIX and Novell, but I don't think those are exactly suited toward your needs.

I believe the one downside of using XP is that it uses more system resources than 98. This may or may not matter for you, depending on how good your setup is. For example, I was looking at the system reqs for the new game, Sacred, and it said that 128 mb of RAM was necessary with 98/ME while 256 was necessary with XP.

I also have seen very few system crashes with XP. In fact, I can't remember the last one...

That is true. XP demands more resources. But when you look at the stability it offers over the 9X / ME family, well, RAM is cheap ;)

Vamp: XP and 2000 are based on the same core. They're not that different aside from the individual tweaks and upgrades that you would expect from a newer OS.

One major difference is that the 9X series are essentially bastardised OS's. They're DOS (and 8 bit OS) with 16 bit stuff added on top. Not exactly super-stable.

If you're cherishing the memories of Windows 98, then you have been taking Prozac for too long.
