Sorcy Stat Points Question

I have been looking at guides in the sorcy forum and started a thread, but cant seem to get a lot of good info. I plan on making an orb, cm, tk, es sorc for a group and then probably mf with after. My question is how do I break down the points from vit and energy? WHere do I aim for either? This will be untwinked, so I will go for little to no dex unless wizzy, due to the fact I probably wont have a good shield for block. Any of you that have done this build, how did you break down your points? ALso, this build seems to be done quite early, where would I put any extra skill points? Thanks in advance for all ideas.

first off, do not put any extra points in eshield. 1 is enough with the +skills you will get later on, and it simply isnt worth it in the long run. an eshield of 50% or so is good enough in the long run, around 8 or so i think.

i'm in the school of thought that 40 in orb/cm is enough, im not really a huge fan of damage. in that case, the leftover points should go into either warmth or teleport depending on your taste (after the standard tk/orb/cm). im the only one who suggests warmth, and im currently testing teleport. i'll let you know which is better.

oh, and if u decide on teleport, dont put 20 in it; around 12-15 is good enough (because you WILL get +skills).

If you're not planning on blocking (I wouldn't recommend it, but to each his own) go with dex for wizzy, ~60 str or ~100 str depending on your goals (I've got 57...and that's more than what I need for my gear), and the rest into vita.

Don't invest in energy.
Period.
You'll be drinking a lot of blues early on, but you'll be happy you did it later.

And just back to the blocking issue, I've got like 220 or so dex to block with rhyme, and am still managing 826/823 life/mana on my more or less untwinked sork...of course I did spend more time than most in NM doing solo baal runs so I've got pretty decent gear.

EDIT: Just a note on Xey's build;
Don't count on getting many +skills, I'm playing an orber and have a total of +2 all +3 cold with all my life/mana/res gear. 23/23 orb is more than enough to solo hell ancients if you can live through it, and plenty for hell meph, the life/mana gear is much more important IMO. Depending on my luck, I anticipate getting maybe about +2 more.
As such I'd recommend ~5 points into ES.

To the tele/warmth issue, I've got about 10 points in each and it's working wonderfully for me.

Skill assignment:

Max orb
Max TK
Max Warmth
Max cold mastery
lvl 10~ static with gear
lvl ice bolt lastly

As for stats this is where the debate will be. Good gear you can get away with base energy or if you have BO support. If you have neither, mana charms are easy to come by. Ive never added energy to any sorc ive made but ive only done a few with less then good gear. You dont need block wiith an orb'r and + dex gear is pretty easy to get if you land a wiz ( waters -tals belt ) so you shouldnt need to add for that.

Well looking for energy advice, I would got 3 to 1 vita to energy personally. I like to have more energy than most when TPing through Durance 2 and I don't like losing 100% of my energy when the merc kills a doll.

High Energy can actually be a really good strategy on an Orb Sorc... if you never plan on doing anything but boss runs (Andy, Meph, Pindle, and Pits). If you ever try to do Baal or Diablo, or even places like Ancients Way and Frozen River, you will be cursed with Blood Mana and be rendered useless.

The flexibility of the Orb build allows you to invest quite a bit into support/safety skills. With high ES (~75%), maxed TK, and about twice as much mana as life, you can actually be pretty much immune to everything but poison.

That being said, whether you go for life or mana (pick one strategy or the other), I'd still recommend getting good blocking. Whitstan's and Moser's will drop for you eventually. Until then, a Bone Shield of Deflecting has 60% blocking and is easily shopped from Drognan in Act 2 Normal. Heck, my lvl 68 single player untwinked Blizzard Sorc still uses hers for running NM Meph.

As I undertstood you only get Blood Mana casted on you if you have more mana than life.

Can anyone confirm this?

You're right in your understanding, phat was refering to a build with high energy, and thusly lower life than mana.

The major downside to that build, aside from blood mana, is the abundance of mana burning packs in hell, otherwise I'd be very tempted to go for a 95% ES/CL sorc.

Those life/mana stats are solid. What gear does your Sorky use and what lvl is she? I'm assuming quite a high lvl with that kind of dex. How do you find the Orb/TK build? And what do you mainly use your sorc for? Boss running or just general playing?

I'm definitely making a sorc next but am very indecisive of what build to do. What would be the fastest meph runner out of Orb/Fireball+Meteor/Meteorb?

She was (died, not because of the build, but because I refused to flux while teleporting around gloams w/ no BO and LR'd) 87...
Something like;
Wizzy
Viper (Perf saphire)
Tarn (Perf saphire)
Rhyme
120 mana ring
65 mana 11 energy 11% res all ring
+1 cold 40 life/20 mana ammy
Bloodfist
Belt 24% FHR 55 life 20% CR
Boots 30% R/W 10% FHR
Then a bunch charms with life or mana, and a few with FHR to hit 86%

She soloed her way to gaurdianship, after that used her for Meph/Ancient Tunnels/Teleporting to throne.

Fastest meph runner would be Blizzard, but the orb/tk build tends to get you there safer.

My friend has been trying to convince me that Fireball/Meteor is the fastest meph runner of all characters (even with best possible items ie Enigma Hammerdin). I don't believe him. The only issue I had when Meph running with Blizz was that it doesn't always hit.

Looks like i'll be trying out an orb sorc. I don't play that much (well my non-Diablo playing friends would disagree with that) so I don't really have time for experimental characters and don't like remaking when I get past lvl 50. Anyway thanks for the sound advice Mouse and hopefully my orber will get as far as your sorky and maybe further. Probably not though as I usually get bored of doing baals at around 85 and end up making another character.
