sorc mf problem

yeah right now im running a blizz sorc, doing andy, mausoleum, ancient tunnels, meph, pindle

and i have a few questions.

right now i have 500%+ mf with my setup:

shako p topazed
skulders p topazed (lv87)
gull dagger
rhyme shield
goldwrap
war trav 43mf
chanceguards 38
nagelring 29%mf
blue ring 35%mf
blue ammy 40%mf
gheeds 32%
couple of mf small charms

well anyways, im having no problem with me being efficient with my runs. i kill andy, meph, pindle with relative ease and quickness but the main problem is my drops.

i always get a lot of rares and crap set items and i heard that the optimum mf to find uniques is around 300 mf. so i can drop 200 mf i guess from my gear but i doubt it'll make a difference in my killing speed.

do u suggest i drop 200 mf, even if it wont make a difference in killing speed??

and also, when i run mausoleums and ancient tunnels, do i kill the normal monsters or just target the champion and the unique monsters?

Don't drop the %mf unless you're hunting for white/ethereal/socketed items.

%mf ALWAYS helps increase the odds of an item being unique/set...assuming the dropped item even HAS a unique. Are a lot of your crappy rares of an item type that has no unique?

Without your high %mf, more and more of those rares and crap set items would instead be even crappier magic items

Re: sorc mf problem

nah its more like crappy rare poleaxes, maces, daggers, etc.

just useless item. i want more UNIQUE SHAKO, SPIDERWEB SASH, SPIRED HELM, BATTLE BOOTS, etc.

Ehm.. well don't we all?

All the mf in the world isn't going to help you get those anytime faster with more mf than you already have. Unfortunately there's a very small increase in the chance to find uniques after I think 350 - 400 or so. And I think you can definitely improve your killing speed if you're using the gull and rhyme as primairy setup.

Improve on skills and fcr to be able to kill faster in larger games. Larger games means more items drop. More item drops means more treasure class selection. Treasure class selection is not affected by mf. But the more players in the game the more selections are done. This further increases the odds of getting something good. Balance between killing speed and mf. 300 mf is good enough to aim for.

may I suggest Occy? u are trading only 50 mf for +3 skills and fcr , very attractive trade.

oh i hate occy, the random tele pisses everyoen off.

and i have my killing gear on switch. i just switch over to gull and rhyme for the final blow

Re: sorc mf problem

In personal experience, I find that killing random unique monsters do drop some nice rares, like real purdy ama gloves. I got way lucky this ladder, and found an occy off nm meph with about 150% mf. As for the other 60-70 runs I've done, i haven't been as lucky, besides a 28% nagels.

Yup, I'm on tal's set. i think mf about 150-160? I got occy off nm diablo last night. :)

Re: sorc mf problem

lol yesterday, i switched out my 40 mf ammy, my 29 nagel, and goldwrap for a tal ammy, a 25 mf 25 lightning resist ring, and goldwrap and got lazy to switch over to gull and rhyme for the kill so just using wizzy and lidless

and the only difference in killing speed is probably 1 less blizzard to kill meph/andy/etc..

Re: sorc mf problem

tingxpops, there is no problem with your MF. You are just on a unlucky streak, that's it. There is no terrible hidden secret here, apart from the fact that the amount of MF plays a very little role in getting the right items. Try downloading ATMA, which features a drop calculator. Then enter the desired item and your amount of MF. Now compare this to lower or higher MF sources and you will see, there is no such odd as 1:10 to get Shako or any other desired object.

The other "secret" to MF is to emphasize on:
Survivability > Killing power > killing speed > MF

This way you can make more runs in less time, meaning more drops. Then you will hopefully start getting oyur lucky times ;)

Re: sorc mf problem

yeah i kinda learned from the previous post. im just getting unlucky that no items called shako, spired helm, battle boots, are dropping.

anyways yesterday got a tal ammy, two war travs, shaftstop (gave to friend though), and a RARE spiderweb sash :(

only if i got lucky, i could've gotten arachnid

And you're sitting there complaining about drops? Wow.

Re: sorc mf problem

imo fcr = the sexy
Maybe bit off-topic, but that "sentence" puts it totally on the spot. A sorceress with less than 63% FCR is not sexy to play at all. Totally sexy would actually be 105% FCR or in case of Fireball sorceresses 200% FCR. The killing speed and surviveability of your build imrpove dramatically with each FCR breakpoint reached.

Re: sorc mf problem

I was hitting meph with my blizz sorc the other day and getting crap gear with a ton of MF. So I got frustrated and started leveling my necro. Playing through the game with NO mf, I found an SoJ and a HoZ within about a half hour. Just keep going - it's 90% luck.
