Sorc Mf gear

Hey im new to the forums, i thought about putting this thread in the sorc part of the forums but the topic is leaning more towads MF, and i saw the MF guide in this part of the forum so i'll throw it here :)

I've finally got some items worth trading (Coh, Lo, Ist, Cham, Fortitude, Spirit.)

Im just wondering, should i get the full tals set for my new MF sorc? Or should i go for other items? Which items should i get to maximise my MF ammount?

The only MF items i have so far are Skulders and 2 Nagelrings (28% on both)

So everything else is open for suggestion, even the skulders can be replaced if theres something betterout there. Thanks for any help/suggetions you can provide :)

Re: Sorc Mf gear

There's nothing wrong with full Tal's, I personally think going with 3 Tal's pieces is the way to go, though, since that gets you the set MF bonus.

I think a good setup would be:

Helm: Harlequin Crest
Amulet: Tal's amulet
Armor: Tal's armor
Weapon: Blade of Ali Baba
Shield: Variable, 4-Isted monarch is a good one to aim for
Rings: Nagelrings
Gloves: Chance Guards
Belt: Tal's belt
Boots: War Traveler

Skulder's in there would be fine, too.

As most of the guides suggest, magic finding is all about maximizing efficiency. Find the best combination of MF and killing speed -- for example, if you can do a 5 minute run with 300 magic find, that's better than if you can only do the same run in 10 minutes with 800 magic find.

I would go for full tals.

Eventually, full tals isn't that expansive so you keep some funds for a different character, that may be orientated to gather wealth using a different method. Eventually, this will prevent you from getting bored soon, which is more important then plain mf if you ask me.

Since you can afford the entire set, you can get the other mf pieces that work with certain Tal's piece to get maximised mf.

Take advantage of 3 Tal's pieces, armor+amulet+belt for the 65% mf boost.

Helm:
P Topaz Harlequin Shako - Best MF helm

Weapon:
Depends on how much mf you need, basically I use something that can increase my damage rather than add mf.
Cold sorc - Death's Fathom.
Light/fire - Eschuta's.

Shield:
Basically the cheapest mf shield you can get is Rhyme, which is Shael+Eth.
Adds 25mf,cannot be frozen and adds 25 to all resists.

Rings:
If you use Rhyme you can skip ravenfrost and use 2 Nagels. Cannot be frozen is important, especially in Hell.

Boots:
War Traveler.

Gloves:
Chanceguards.

Charms:
Gheed's.
Masses of 6-7% mf scs.

When I am MFing on my Sorc or Hdin I don't need cannot be frozen, even in Hell. Yes, there are those very, very rare occasions in which my affected running/walking speed has gotten me killed, but being frozen does NOT affect CASTING animation/time/frames, you cast at the same FCR breakpoint regardless. This stat is essentially useless for nearly all purposes. My suggestion is to ignore the Cannot be Frozen stat and fill it with res/mf/life/etc.

Re: Sorc Mf gear

Thanks for the input guys. Heres what i have so far

Helm: Shako with Ptopaz

Amulet: Tals ammy

Belt: Tals belt (soon to be replaced by gold wrap)

Rings: 1 nagelring/ 1 rare mf ring.

Body: Skulders with Ptopaz

Boots: War Travs

Weapon: Oculus/wiz spike (havent decided)

Switch: Ali baba

shield: Lidless

I think i'll look into making a Rhyme to go ith my Alibab sword.

That all brings me up and over 350% so what i need now is more +resistances on the jewelry if possible?

There is significant amount of diminishing return on MF once you get over 300%. A general rule of thumb is to aim for 300% MF with max res, solid fcr, and enough +skill to kill target mobs relatively fast. I would actually recommend you use Tal's armor instead of Skullders if at all possible, it is a much stronger choice.

Here is a great reference to the areas you can MF as well as suggestions for each class, there is also a MF percentage table in here that should interest you greatly.

It depends on what you're aiming for, if you want as much mf as possible. But as hisakix said, after 300% the diminishing returns are quite large. Mfing is more about killing stuff as fast as possible anyways.

It obviously depends on the build you have, but for hell meph I'd go for full tals. I had the shako/3 tals/occy/splendor/travs/chancies setup, and my meteorb was a pretty slow killer. I personally don't think it was worth the extra 90% mf since I died half of the time.

Check out my post in another guy's thread:

http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=721538

There seems to be a lot of parallels with your decision and my choices as well. I don't like the Occy for mf since the random teleport can get you into trouble at times and can be kind of frustrating. Wiz spike is much better imo.

As for the armor, if you're using 2 tal set pieces, may as well use a 3rd and get the mf bonus. Use p-topaz'd tal's armor; good mf and some rez i believe.

I personally don't like spirit for the simple fact that I can't seem to get full rez while using it (even though it does provide good rez). If you can manage it, fantastic. But I honestly prefer Moser's to get my resistances maxed since meph doesn't hurt nearly as much when I'm caught in his charged bolt or his frozen-ball attack.

Shoot for ~300% mf or so. Too much isn't good since all you find are blues/rares. Rares are fine, but generally most builds consist of uniques (other than zon gloves, high lvl rings)

EDIT: Forgot to mention, pure blizz has been the best meph killer personally. Massive damage since it has many synergies. You won't need the +skills nearly as much as with other builds because of this.

Re: Sorc Mf gear

Imho it's good to have high FCR, especially for teleporting through areas (WSK, Meph's Durance). Minimum is 63 FCR BP. Which you can now achieve only with Lidless/Wizzy.
For teleporting speed, it's quite easy to achieve 105 FCR BP too.

Tal's armor is definitly better for a sorc with Tal's Belt and Amulet because it gives another 20% FCR and 65% more MF.

Spirit is incredible shield. On which other shield you can get 35%FCR? On which other shield you can get +2 skills? On which other shield you can get 55%FHR? And you have it all in one package together with quite nice resists and huge mana... It gives you so much that you can get MF elsewhere. Just for comparison, count 5%FCR=7%MF, 1+tree skill=21MF, 5% resist all=7%MF (base on charms). Rhyme, Splendor or Lidless are nowhere near this one.

Other gear suggestions depends greatly on build you use and area you want to run. In some areas you don't need resists so much, in WSK+Throne, high resists and some lightning absorb is advisable etc...

BTW. My main MF character is a vanilla (no Spirit) pure Blizzard sorc.
Using Tals armor(PTopaz)+belt+amu, Occy (+5/-5 facet), Shako (PTopaz), Chancies, SoJ, 33MF ring, War Travs.
In inventory 3 skillers, some resist charms, Gheeds, lot of FRW* and MF.
As you can see, it's not all about MF, but also about killing speed (SoJ, skillers)

*FRW is not so important on BNet...
