I recently decided to re-equip my enchantress/melee sorc (PvP). Before, I had used a 6xShael PB + 20ias gloves = 140ias total. I decided to actually look up the breakpoint for a sorc using a pb and the calculator told me that 48% ias gives 10fpa (2.5 attacks per second). That would mean I could use 2xshael + 20 ias gloves or just 3xshael for the desired IAS. But I always see melee sorcs with 6xshael pb's. Can anyone shed some light on this if I am correct or what?

Well the melee sorc , is it a bear sorc? If so then IAS on weapon is what counts the most. That's why you see so many 6 shael pb's.

You are correct, 48% IAS is all you need. I see no reason to go for 6xshael pb unless you're transforming into Werebear with your sorc.

Ah, yes, I am using beast to transform into werebear form. The calculator I was using didn't have a way to factor that in. Would this require the 6xshael pb?

When you transform into a Bear you actually get the same IAS table as a Druid in Werebear form would have. Facts and Formulae on strategy.diabloii.net sadly does not have basic IAS table without weapon. In general Werebears are slow attackers and that's why those werebear transformed run around with 6xShael Phaseblades, since Phaseblade is already "very fast", meaning base -30 on speed already.

Druid Werebears need 110% IAS with Phase Blade for 4 frame attack.

You need 110IAS for 4 frames. So you can do 4 Shaels and 2 15%IAS Jools with 2nd Mods such as AR.

Sorc Werebear IAS tables are not the same as Druid Werebear IAS tables. The breakpoints for a Sorc Werebear with a Phase Blade are 93 IAS/5 Frame and 121 IAS/4 Frame (impossible to reach.) You want 5 Shael + 1 Whatever or 1 Shael + 5 IAS/Whatever Jewels.
