Some Great luck... so an ethics question

After playing exclusively softcore in SP I decided to bite the bullet and try a HC character. Well I dived in with low expectations but my Zealot Deadmeat is now a Destroyer and progressing nicely through NM. As he was cruising through Duriels tomb on the way to crushing the oversized maggot he stumbled across a Ring, expecting another Nagel to pair up nicely with his other Nagel and his Nokozan Relic I was too excited. However, imaging my surprise when it turned out to be that ever elusive Stone of Jordan!

Ever since I started this HC character I did wonder what I'd do if I found a really good item I didn't have on SC. And to my surprise it has actually became a problem!

From searching and reading earlier posts on HC to SC transfers there appears to be a general consensus that it is okay to do this as long as I only use the item for personal use and don't try to trade it, which I wouldn't. The good old what you do on your computer is your own business rule. This is correct?

This is what I first considered doing (because there's no way I'm letting that run die on my pally if it can be helped) however after some thought I realised that HC SOJ are no doubt far from common and someone may want to put the ring to better use than me so I will put it up for trade if I get a decent offer in SC gear since my Zealot's going untwinked including no tradeing.

So after all that I suppose I'm saying drop me a PM if anyones interested in a HC SOJ and if theres no interest/agreeable trade I'm just checking it is okay to transfer the ring to SC for personal use?

i know that many people regard HC -> SC transfer 'ok' since HC is harder

but not the other way round
i wouldn't mind if you did do it
but there may be others with diff opinions

Most people dont mind a HC to SC transfer but the other way around is highly controversial.

Congrats on finding an SOJ though. I have not been able to get one of those yet.

Yup, going HC->SC isn't generally considered bad. Actually, I don't know of anyone on this board that would have any problem with that. (But I suppose someone will come along and prove me wrong :lol: )

I'd go ahead, and bring that baby to the trade thread :thumbsup:

I started reading this and got worried for a sec, I had a hard core necro that I muled some stuff off of (nothing even good) so when I read this I started thinking "did I do something wrong?" but no, it seems fine. By all means, mule it off. if you really don't want it I'll take it though, I got, lets see, a cracked sash to trade!

If one day I find a SoJ, I will not trade it, and I will use it in HC and SC without any problem

Congrats on the find. SoJ's are one of the most useful caster items in the game, and I can see why you would want transfer it.

Personally, I do see a problem with this, even though HC is harder. IMO, what is found in HC, stays in HC, and the same with SC. Again, I will default to the Bnet argument. If Bnet can't do it, why should we be able to?

However, I am not going to think the ring or the SC character that is wearing it is tainted.

Btw, this is the first time I've seen this question come up in my time here.

gj finding a soj :clap: np wif transferring to sc and also np transferring from sc to hc as long as the item was originally found in hc.

Heads up on hell mode hc, u'll probably want at least shaft for dmg reduc b4 fighting any knights or any monsters like them

I'm with everyone else so far. I have no problem with you moving that ring to a SC character, provided it (nor any of your existing SC gear) never comes onto your HC character(s). I wouldn't consider the ring at all tainted, nor would I mind if you traded items you found as a result of using it.

And I'm going to agree with crg -- my own philosophy in using ATMA is that if it can't be done on B.net, it shouldn't be done with ATMA.
