Sockets from Larzuc

Hello,

A q about what is mentioned in the title. A always thought Larzuc gives the max nr of sockets that is possible for the ilvl of that particular item (also see on battlenet: http://www.battle.net/forums/thread.aspx?fn=d2-gameplay&t=186629&p=1&#post186629)

Now I read something else on diabloii.net:
"On top of this, the number of sockets is semi-random. Testing in single player (where the same item can be used multiple times, by exiting the game without saving) has yielded varying numbers of sockets, using the exact same item and quest reward. The number you get seems to be +/- 1 from what you'd expect the max to be for that item.

For this reason using the socketing quest to add sockets to normal items is not recommended, since the results are too unpredictable." (http://www.diabloii.net/items/sockets.shtml)

This made me a bit confused. Can anyone explain?

Thanks!

That's rather old info, when nobody really knew how the game works. Larzuk always adds the maximum of sockets to nonmagical items. The maximum depends on the item type and the item level.

You can find the numbers here. Apart from circlets etc. and a few wands, it's accurate AFAIK.

The circlets have since been fixed up, but the wands have always been accurate though.

Ah, good to know. That saves that part of the explanation when mentioning the link :azn:
