    Socketing question

I am saving up to make an Infinity polearm for my meteorbs merc.

I bought an ethereal Colossus Voulge (for an Um) and was assured by the seller that it would be given 4 sockets no matter which skill level on which I used a socketing quest reward.

I was told that it's about ilvl, and that the skill level makes no difference.

Is this right? If I get one of my mules to socket it via an Act 5 quest reward on Normal skill will it have the 4 sockets I need for Infinity? Or should I get my mule up to Hell Act 5 to make sure?

I really don't want to waste this item by using a quest reward and finding that it now has 1,2,3,5 or 6 sockets.

I tried to search the forums, but I couldn't find a definitive answer to this question.

My thanks in advance for any replies.

    Re: Socketing question

    1. Do you mean Difficulty level? No, difficulty level in which you socket does not have any say in the resulting number of sockets.

    2. CV's can only get up to 4 sockets.

    3. The person was correct - any CV, unless it was fixed from a cracked version by the El+Chippie recipe, will always get 4 sockets, since they cannot drop in areas that make them have less than 4 sockets. And the repair recipe does not produce ethereal items anyway, so you are safe.
