Socketing Question

I want to socket a Superior Grand Crown i found doing a Pindle in NM run so i can put some Perfect Topaz into it. How can i find out if it will get 2 or 3 sockets in it from Larzuk as i only want to socket an helm that will end up with three sockets.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Grand Crown can have between 1-3 sockets.

Using Larzuk's socket quest will give you the maximum number of sockets for that item (3)

So using Larzuk's quest will be ok

Thanks Gaza. I was a bit worried about wasting Larzuks quest but you have put my mind at ease.

But only because grand crowns can't be dropped by monsters with a level of 40 or lower. Other helms, like a normal crown from act 2 normal, will get only 2 sockets, for example, except they are dropped by a L41+ monster (see below). Helms like the full helm and their exceptional and elite counterparts can have only 2 sockets in any case.

See here for a complete list. Note that's 1.09 information, but with a few exceptions (e.g. criclets, diadems or the monster levels perhaps being wrong by one) it's still accurate.

I can always count on Normal Larzuk for an Artisan´s Great Helm, if I bug him long enough. But it only works if the character is at least level 35, for the same reason as above. Likewise, Ancients armors are QLVL 40, so he and Anya will only start selling those at clvl 35.


BTW, I think using a Larzuk reward like this is a huge waste, as you have 2/3 chance to get 3 sockets in an appropriate mask/helm with the socketing recipe (doesn´t work with Superior items, though). But that may be due to my playstyle. Some players think that using an SoJ to socket a rare is a waste, when it makes perfect sense to me (who don´t mule items).

Thanks guys. Maybe i will hold off getting Lazruk to socket anything. What is the recipy for socketing a helm. I can find one that says body armour but does that include helms? It also doesnt work on superior which is a shame as the helm i found had 103 defence which was quite nice.

1 non-magical helm, 1 Ral rune, 1 Thul rune, 1 perfect sapphire

Be aware that only a select few helm types can have 3 sockets:
Mask/Death Mask/Demonhead
Great Helm/Winged Helm/Spired Helm
Crown/Grand Crown/Corona
Tiara/Diadem
(and all the Barb and Druid helms/pelts)
