Socketing Ali Baba

I just found Ali Babas today for my MF necro. He's a lvl ** summoner with 464 MF right now. What socket in the Ali Baba other than Ists? I don't have any ists. Thanks

Resist all jewels, maybe some extra live or mana on jewels.
But 2x IST is best (i know, i know, you know).

Hmm some mf % jewels perhaps?

Personally i wouldnt socket it with anything, because eventually you will find ists or find some stuff to buy them with.
I'd just let it be unsocketed untill i found something worth socketing.

Sorry if i wasnt much of a help :uhhuh:

I would socket it, because i found about 7 Ali Baba's before i found my first IST.
That was in the 1.09 time, with massive MF MEPH runs in SC.
Now i tend more to HCL.
But Ali baba's are much more comon then ist's.

Yeah i guess they are really common...

Lem is a great option in my opinion, especially if you're into gambling (like every single sensible person should be).

I use 2 x 10% mf jewels in my Ali baba, used on reverse tab. That boosts my necro's mf nicely to 395% for the critical boss kills. As far as I know mf jewels with more than 10% mf require a prefix and suffix so they are pretty uncommon also. I have only one Ali baba so far but Hel runes are common and I have the mf jewels sitting on a mule ... and 20% extra mf is a useful boost. And Ists are so rare and useful in runewords there is no way I'm putting one or worse 2 into an Ali baba :D.

Extra cash from a Lem is nice for gambling but better used in Wealth armour (for me with 4 x PTopaz) and I get plenty of gold with Goldwrap, Changuards and the Ali baba anyway. Extra mf is much more valuable to me at present.

How are you honestly getting anything decent gambling? I use that for fill in the blank stuff under level 50 till I can do MF runs.

Yah, what does gambling do? You can't get Uniques or Sets right? So what should I gamble for?

I do have a 15% MF jewel. A guy above said it is pretty rare though to get above 10, so I am thinking about trading it. Because i already have 467 and an extra 15 does a lot less for me than it does for most.

1) Gambling rocks... Rings, Circlets, and Amulets are my thing. Some of us can't afford Mara's, but you can get damn close gambling.

I gambled a GREAT ammy for a hammerdin, and it only has a level 35 requirement. Yes you can gamble sets and uniques, except my only find on that front is clegs gloves... ack.

As to the Ali Baba question, MF JEWELS!!! That extra 20% can really help. Then, once you get 2 ists, just get that Hel rune out, unsocket the jewels, and let the ISTs do their work.

Caveat... If you already have a high% of MF... I'd say don't bother with the ISTs... the diminishing returns makes them lose their punch. They'd be good to dual wield with a barb who's set up for massive killing and DR, but do a weapon switch, and bam, 300% instant MF for horking and merc kills on bosses.

Gambling can get you a very nice +2 Necro amulet with life, resists and FCR ... thank you :music: . And my brother really likes his +2 Barbar amulet with mana leech and really good resists... also you could gamble dual leech rings since they are next to impossible to find.

I gambled a circlet with +3 summoning and 56life. After I socketed it with a p.topaz it became part of my killing gear AND mf gear. At high levels amulets and rings are IMO the best gambles because of their "low" price. Circlets come in there too, but their high prices makes them a bit less attractive to me. Also you are guaranteed at least one ring and one ammy on the gamble screen, circlets not so much.

Dang thanks for the all input, didn't know gambling was so good. I swear I read somewhere on this site that you can't gamble for Uniques though. But obviously it is wrong, so gambling here I come! Oh and who is best to gamble from?

And for prevent monster heal from a Mal, would I need to hit the monster or would having it in my weapon let my minions prevent monster heal?

I read somewhere that Alkor in Act3 has lower prices.

I haven't verified this myself. Can anyone else verify this?

All gambling is the same. I haven't checked if Elzix in Act 2 is cheaper after Atma's little speech about helping you out with the shopkeeper's prices, but I doubt it is.

The only variable to gambling is you character's level.
